Dh and i were talking about some names the other night - this is my way of keeping the thought in the back of his mind that we will be going for number 5 soonish - and it works/
Would love some opinions on the girls names -
We have 4 children - Iris, Pearl, Amos and Elijah.

Our list

Winifred - top for me
Joan - top for dh
Mary
Jean
Margaret - Maggie
Dorothy - Dot
Hilda
Audrey

We would probably go for a more wacky mn - Sunshine, Bluebell, Violet etc

I am sure they will not be terribly popular but thought i would test the waters!

Boys names under consideration are Jethro, Jeremiah (Jem) and Atticus.

Like Maggie and Winifred and all the flower names and Jem for a boy.

Heard the name Miriam the other day on this little girl and thought it very nice and elegant.

nigeltuffnell · 08/09/2008 15:41

Atticus is very cool
I also know and love a dear little 3yr old Audrey, unusual and pretty.

Hi - sorry for the delay in replying - a dead computer at home!

Gosh - i really thought i might get a more positive response - although i am not bothered at all by the negative ones.

Winifred is partly a family name - we suggested it jokingly for other dd's but have really started to love it!

Joan came about from my love of Juniper - dh wasnt so sure but he loved Joan, i also like it.

Well - there is plenty of thinking time!
dh mentioned Penelope and Bernard last night so mulling those over at the moment - although there is the same initial with the girls!

Thanks everyone!

I love Audrey as it immediately makes me think of Audrey Hepburn

berolina · 05/09/2008 22:42

Dorothy would go well with Iris and Pearl. Mary is lovely too but goes less well. Someone mentioned Dulcie - beautiful.

I like all your boys' names, especially Atticus.

angel1976 · 05/09/2008 22:32

Iris was first choice too if DS had been a girl... I like the way you think!

ChacunaSonGout · 05/09/2008 21:44

I LOVE your girls names

ChacunaSonGout · 05/09/2008 21:43

Jeremiah is lovely

Jeremiah Duggan a cause i am close to

Majeika · 05/09/2008 21:41

Coral
Nell
Edith
Ruby

Ned
Atticus is cool
Cassius
Abraham
Noah
Saul
Seth
Elijah
Reuben

please dont do Winifred. for your dd

Interesting that your dd's names are retro cool and your ds names are biblical.

seeker · 05/09/2008 21:39

But Jeremiah was such a sad character in the bible....

zwiggy · 05/09/2008 21:33

your girls names Iris and Pearl are very pretty names but your list of girls names are a bit haughty and straight. I would be jealous of my sisters if it were me

angel1976 · 05/09/2008 21:29

I love, love, love Atticus! But DH wouldn't let me have it for DS...

I love Margaret. It has great nns.

Joan I'm not wild about but Jeannie is lovely.

Elsa, Dulcie, Polly and Mabel would go well with your girls'.

frazzledoldbag34 · 05/09/2008 19:44

I love Atticus. That's a gorgeous one.
But sorry not keen on any of the girls names.
I'd suggest sticking with the Violet / Bluebell type theme - have you thought about Topaz or Emerald?

AbbeyA · 05/09/2008 19:24

Margaret or Maggie is the only one that is quite nice.
I would be embarrassed if I had to go through life as Winifred, she would have to be quite a trendsetter to carry it off!
They are all early 20th century names that are not popular for very good reasons.

pointydog · 05/09/2008 19:16

Winifred - nononono
Joan - quite like this one
Mary - like this one too
Jean - not as nice as previous two, it's harsher
Margaret - Maggie - like a lot, really like Maggie/Meg
Dorothy - Dot - nononono
Hilda - nonononon
Audrey - nonononono

Jethro, Jeremiah (Jem) and Atticus - don;t like any of them at all

Janni · 05/09/2008 19:12

Jeremiah and Mary.

nobodysfool · 05/09/2008 19:08

I like Winnie (if it was to be shortened) but to be honest i prefer the flowery names you mentioned.
Atticus just is odd,it reminds me of that dodgy programme 'cash in the attic'.

I have a Jem. He's the only one I know and everyone says they love it (although I suppose they aren't going to tell me if they hate it..)

dibdabscribble · 05/09/2008 18:59

Oh I love Atticus!

LaDiDaDi · 05/09/2008 18:38

I like all of your boy's names but Atticus is the winner for me.

I don't like Winifred, Joan or Hilda (I actually think that they are quite clunky and ugly compared with Pearl and Iris). The others are all nice but I think Audrey goes best with your other girl's names although Maggie is probably my favourite.

belgo · 05/09/2008 18:36

Atticus is the boys name which would go best with Amos and Elijah.

I'm not so keen on any of the girls names, apart from Mary.
