love the name

GrapeJelly · 19/08/2008 21:19

Very pretty name but the Hamlet connection would put me off. How about Olivia instead?

reginaphilangy · 19/08/2008 20:52

Don't like it. Sorry.

MrsMattie · 19/08/2008 20:51

It's a very pretty name, a lovely word to say....but it is a teensy bit poncy.

Quattrocento · 19/08/2008 20:50

I love the name but ...

you do know she was a bit of a cissy and ended up drowned?

PinkyDinkyDooToo · 19/08/2008 20:48

I love it. Especially Effie for short. Lovely

pointydog · 19/08/2008 20:45

niet

Jazzicatz · 19/08/2008 20:30

I asked about Byron the other week - not so popular. I am not pregnant - but Byron and Ophelia may be good to call the kittens when I get them!

nice...........but shooting up in the popularity stakes so be warned....might not be as "original" as you think....

Kbear · 19/08/2008 20:24

I work with an Othelia - I like the name, different and pretty.

princessglitter · 19/08/2008 20:16

great minds think alike

flimflammum · 19/08/2008 20:14

Sorry, cross posted with princessglitter

flimflammum · 19/08/2008 20:13

NO! It sounds pretty but Ophelia was Hamlet's lover in Shakespeare's play. She went mad after he dumped her, and committed suicide.

princessglitter · 19/08/2008 20:11

The connection with the doomed Ophelia in Hamlet would put me off. Why name a baby after a poor mad girl who drowns herself?

In itself it is a pretty name, though.

ForeverOptimistic · 19/08/2008 20:07

I don't like it it is a little bit too "out there" for me, but I admit it does have a pretty ring to it. I am sure someone called Ophelia is not likely to be hanging around people making crass boobs comments so you don't need to worry about that one!

wellbalanced · 19/08/2008 20:07

I likw it i think its nice not too weird sounding...

Blandmum · 19/08/2008 19:56

as long as your surname isn't Balls

Jazzicatz · 19/08/2008 19:54

Stars22 · 19/08/2008 19:53

How is it pronounced?

Goober · 19/08/2008 19:53

Sorry. I would. There was a comedian years ago who took the piss out of the name. For that reason.

Jazzicatz · 19/08/2008 19:52

Same as Siobham!
