What do you think of the name Farra for a girl?

Ah, thanks, Sophiajane! I'm not bothered - to each his own - but I'm surprised at how strongly people dislike the name, as I've always had lovely comments. Although I'm sure no one would actually tell you they hate your name after they meet you for the first time!

sophiajane · 26/08/2008 14:33

lastboxoftampons, I also have a friend called Farah I think it's a really strong beautiful name and was high on my list for DD2

raindropsonroses · 26/08/2008 14:30

I agree not a posh name at all, almost the opposite. Very masculine too!

lastboxoftampons · 26/08/2008 13:17

I like it - but I'm a bit biased since it IS my name! Spelled Farah. I'm not Iranian and I don't think I'm particularly chavvy I will say people have a hard time getting their heads' around it no matter how much I spell it for them so that I usually have to resort to "like Farrah Fawcett" But once people do get it, I often get lovely compliments on it.

periselene · 26/08/2008 12:11

It's not a posh name. Might be a wannabe posh name. It's probably lovely in the language it came from, but I don't think it travels well. What other names are on your shortlist?

maribe · 26/08/2008 12:06

Love it.

ethanchristopher · 18/08/2008 17:49

i am called jessica but my dad wanted to call me farrah apparently

although i am one of the thousands that are called jessica i am so glad i was not a farrah

so so glad

slinkiemalinki · 18/08/2008 17:03

Farah - quite popular muslim girl's name - I rather like it in that context. Less keen on spelling of Farrah for some reason. Everybody will say Fawcett won't they? Or "slacks"

DarrellRivers · 18/08/2008 15:34

I quite like it
Agree though, you would have to be posh to pull it off

PootyApplewater · 18/08/2008 15:33

nuh uh

suzywong · 18/08/2008 15:33

Faraday Ohm

gotta ring to it

hellebores · 18/08/2008 15:32

My DP is a professor in electrical engineering and I wanted to call baby girl Faraday (after Michael).

But - friends/family and dp thought it was too like Farrah (and therefore to chavvy) - luckily we had a boy. Still like Faraday though - but not Farrah. Sorry.

I know only one Farrah, she is from Iraq originally & obviously it suits her.

snowleopard · 18/08/2008 14:41

I like unusual names generally, but I can't get my head round it because it makes me think of the awful trousers.

Horrible. Also sounds like Farah, the clothing brand, which is also horrible.

Just my opinion though
