My mum was and her friend were laughing that this woman's new granddaughter was called Delilah- they just thought of Tom Jones. I am pg and I think I quite like it- hormones or quite sweet?!

My 6mo dn is a delilah. I don't like it personally but if you worry about products/associations/songs/rhymes/spelling/MN opinion, you can discount just about every name. I think what matters is if the parents like it. And it's appropriate. I mean, you might like 'Latrine' for a girl but it's up to you to be sensible.

I like it, but have a friend called Cecelia and she gets sung at too often, so I wonder if Delilah's would get the same treatment?

mabel1973 · 18/08/2008 14:34

I like it...I am really struggling for names this time round and suggested it to DH in a text message....he didn't even reply..!!!

I was thinking of Flora myself on the thread i started it didn't go down well due to the margarine connection. I would like to think that you could take a name and it would suit that person regardless of any song / products etc associated with it, but maybe I am living in cloud cuckoo land!

Ineedsomesleep · 13/08/2008 08:57

Its fine if you want the first question everyone asks her "are you from Stoke then?"

OracleInaCoracle · 13/08/2008 08:31

i love it, and have baggsied it if we ever have a little girl, its a beautiful name that works well at all ages.

bikerunski · 13/08/2008 08:16

You know the song is about domestic violence don't you?

PurpleOne · 13/08/2008 03:17

Lilah is a lovely name

babyOcho · 13/08/2008 03:08

I love it. Wanted it for DD but DP vetoed it.

lou33 · 13/08/2008 01:14

omg how can anyone forget TOM!!!!

squanderedzeitgeist · 13/08/2008 01:11

I love it - will anyone remember Tom Jones in another decade? Her generation certainly won't!

lou33 · 13/08/2008 01:06

i always think it is best to pick the name you want and just present it when the baby is born

otherwise there is always someone who will try to put you off

that way they have to just stfu

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/08/2008 20:01

I love it, but got bad reactions from everyone else when I tried to put it on our list, as this thread demonstrates!

Heated · 12/08/2008 20:00

I know a Delilah in her 30s, named by her feminist mother who wanted an empowered name for her dd, although she calls it a 'ball-cutter name' . She loves her name now but didn't like the attention it got when she was younger.

I think it's lost it shock value & is actually very pretty. Lilah is a lovely nn.

Boulders · 12/08/2008 19:46

It's nice and, along with Lilah, seems to be on the rise.

SlartyBartFast · 12/08/2008 19:30

actually i was second and hadnt realised.
i wouldnt call any dd's i had that for that reason - too many why, why whys!

As it's our local football team's chant, it's not a name I'd choose.

Don't dislike the name though.

lauraloola · 12/08/2008 19:26

I like it. Its a classic name that will be cute when young and powerful when older x

SlartyBartFast · 12/08/2008 19:25

why, why, why

tassisssss · 12/08/2008 19:24

Hmm, I'd think of the Bible story...not a pretty character!

Then I'd think of the song!

quickerthistimeplease · 12/08/2008 19:21

Just looked up its meaning- one website says 'Pining with desire' , another says 'seductive'. (Samson and Delilah I suppose). seems a bit yucky for a baby girl

I quite like it, but the Tom Jones song goes straight to my head whenever I hear it!

rodg82 · 12/08/2008 19:12

I really like it! Makes me think of the recent "hey there Delilah" song...

quickerthistimeplease · 12/08/2008 19:11

DH is welsh and we HAD to have a welsh middle name for DD. If we have another DD his latest welsh suggestions are just ridiculous- I wonder if he'd consider Delilah a sort of compromise
