Our surname is Jones and hubby wants a 'rugged' first name to go with it. What do you think?

Yukon reminds me of vulcan ie mr spock off star trek don't think your ds will be to chuffed as he grows up sorry

DRAGON30 · 12/08/2008 12:02

I've got a DS called Bryn, which means 'hill'. Is that outdoorsy enough for you?. If you go with Yukon he will be called Yuck. It's too cruel.

minouminou · 11/08/2008 22:31

wythenshawe

QuintessentialShadows · 11/08/2008 22:30

I actually know an Edward Jones. Burly boy. Very masculine. How about Edward? Shortened to Ed.

Reginaphilangy · 11/08/2008 22:30

"Ok, hubby has made me ask this.... what do you think of Yukon?"

What do i think of it, for what? A car? A TV manufacturer? A dodgy salesman?

VersdeSociete · 11/08/2008 22:29

Gorbals
Pecs
Schwarzenegger Jones has a ring to it
Or BruceWillis Jones
Spike
Plank
Knuckleduster
Crag

QuintessentialShadows · 11/08/2008 22:28

How about Storm?

amitymama · 11/08/2008 22:25

How about Burly? or Brawny? or Tree?

All quite rugged, me thinks.

JuneBugJen · 11/08/2008 21:59

I assume you are British. can you think of anywhere 'rugged' in GB?

Southmead near us in Bristol is 'rugged' in a roundabout way. Southmead Jones.

It has a definite ring to it...

Quattrocento · 11/08/2008 21:58

Oh sorry QS, you did that already. As you were.

Quattrocento · 11/08/2008 21:56

Just think of what it will be shortened to.

I'm sorry to have to point this out but the diminutive of Yukon must undoubtedly be Yucky.

midnightexpress · 11/08/2008 21:56

Vin Jones dittany? Think it through.

How about Red? Like Red Adair (he used to put out oil well fires. Now that's rugged)

thederkinsdame · 11/08/2008 21:54

When we named our LO we tried to imagine the following:

  1. Calling it out in the supermarket
  2. Our LO going on to be a Dr or lawyer or another 'serious' profession (no pressure to do well LOL ).

If it didn't pass those tests it was binned!
I have to say IMO I'm not keen!

My first thought was also You Con. Shortened to Yucky.

preggersplayspop · 11/08/2008 21:43

Sounds like a character from Star Trek.

Can you imagine shouting "YUKON, COME HERE NOW" in a few years down at the park? Now can you imagine the look on other people's faces??

Collision · 11/08/2008 21:40

Rugged names

mmm....cannot think of any rugged names as such. am thinking of rugged men but their names are not rugged......

Laurence Daglaglio

Daniel Craig

Sean Bean (sort of rugged but short)

Clive Owen (yum!)

Ben
Dan
Sam

Yukon - no! a bit wet actually - certainly not rugged!

Collision · 11/08/2008 21:38

Yuk!

Heated · 11/08/2008 21:37

Fred after Fredericton

James Bay

Edmond after Edmonton

you see where I'm going with this? But please, please, not Yukon, esp as a first name, second name possibly.
