Sorry, keep starting these name threads but I do like to have feedback on names.

Louisa for a girl (obviously), what do you think. Has a special meaning as have lovely SIL call Louise and wonderful cousin also called Louise, both very special people to us.

I would probably shorten it to Lulu as a term of endearment.

gastronaught - My Lewis is said correctly Loo-is. I get wound up when people say is that spelt L-O-U-I-S or L-E-W-I-S

looweeza · 13/08/2008 13:57

i'm keeping this thread for the next time I need a pick me up!

I agree its a great name, and people will always tell her so...

gastronaught · 13/08/2008 01:24

What about Lois. I have a Lois. Who is sometimes call Lola by her friends.

(Phoenix, I just wanted to say would your LEWIS be pronounced Loo-iz or Loo-ee ('cause the second is spelt Louis) and I am sad to say, that I have a major problem with people who spell their baby boy' name Lewis and pronounce it Loo-ee. Good luck with your babies)

My middle name is Louise, and really like it. Louisa sounds like the breeze whispering through trees, so good!

How about:

Also like Louisa Hope

I think you might need a short name beginning with a consonant but there may be exceptions. Be warned! I shall let my imagination run riot!

Louisa Penelope
Louisa Maeve
Louisa Dorothy
Louisa Tabitha
Louisa Honour
Louisa Sarah
Louisa Vivienne
Louisa Gray
Louisa Rae
Louisa Pearl
Louisa Violet
Louisa Belle
Louisa Olivia
Louisa Sophia
Louisa Isadora

Beautiful name.

bluebellwood · 13/08/2008 00:49

It's a lovely, lovely name. It was my grandmother's name - she was born in 1884 - I think its quite timeless and classless too.

It's my daughter's middle name - I sometimes wish it was her first name as her first name has become quite common in the last few years.

I love it, so much so it is my DD's name. She is 16 months old and I havent met anyone else with her name.

I think it is a lovely classic name, mind you we do call her Lolly most of the time, not that classic.

WinkyGirl · 12/08/2008 16:38

Love it. We were going to call DC2 Louisa. When I was little I had a book called "The Adventures of Madalene and Louisa" Our eldest is Madeleine so it just sounded right. I think I would have shortened it to Lou or Lolly but Lulu is nice too

In the end we got a boy instead!

CountessDracula · 12/08/2008 14:27

We call our Weezle
or Weez
or Weezie
(or Louisa)

My dad calls her Lulu

serenity · 12/08/2008 14:24

My sister's called Louiza, and was always called Lulu until she was around 13 and then started threatening actual bodily harm if we continued to call her that

CountessDracula · 12/08/2008 14:18

Leave it alone
It's MINE
(well my dd's)

Obv I LOVE it!

cathbath76 · 12/08/2008 14:10

I love the name Louisa! It is on my names list (along with Louis for a boy).

One thing though - how do you pronounce it? I would pronounce it as 'Loo-EEZ-a'. However I've also heard it as 'Loo-EES-a' with a strong 'S' sound. I prefer my way but I'm not sure if I'm pronouncing it correctly?!

OneLieIn · 10/08/2008 22:14

Lovely name - a real classic

Reginaphilangy · 10/08/2008 22:13

Gorgeous!

Classic and beautiful.

bikerunski · 10/08/2008 21:45

pgwithno3 Sonographer said he was more certain than usual. Then found "bits" and said words to the effect of "oooh yes, look". We only have boys name (the only name at all we could agree on, with family connections on both sides) and clothes (mostly donated) lined up! I am aware that he could be wrong though abd keep having to remind DH.

I'm due in 5 weeks! Middle of September. Scarily close!!!!! 2 more weeks at work, and phew, am I ready to go.

pgwithnumber3 · 10/08/2008 21:32

Did the sonographer 100% think a boy or were they not sure? Congratulations anyway, are you due December?

hi pgwithno3

No, we lived in Hope in Derbyshire. We think we are expecting a boy based on 20 week scan, nothing more intrusive. We'll know soon!

pgwithnumber3 · 10/08/2008 21:09

Yes Janni, I will start a trend for the name! I did with the name Grace.

Have to give the kudos to Lulumama for picking the middle name though, round of applause Lulumama!

It just feels right. With DD1, we had the name Grace Elisabeth pretty much straight away, when we found out she was a girl, we stuck with it and never wavered. With DD2, we kept her sex a surprise and we only chose her name the last couple of weeks of the pregnancy. Strangely enough we could NEVER chose a boys name, I wonder if this one will be another girl with me having the name already!

At this rate there'll be a Panorama investigation in a few years time into why all the little girls born in the latter half of 2008 were named Louisa

KatieMorag · 10/08/2008 20:56

lovely

LilRedWG · 10/08/2008 20:54

It is DD's middle name

AnotherFineMess · 10/08/2008 20:53

Love it so much that it's DD1's middle name.

TheSmallClanger · 10/08/2008 20:49
