What do you think of Lilian or Lillian shortened to Lily?

I love it so does DH reading over my shoulder I also like Lilith.

Weegiemum · 12/08/2008 00:09

My dd2's best friend is called Lillian (age 4 and a half)

Dh though she was an immaginary friend and had no iudea where dd2 had got the name from until the morning he dropped her off at nursery adn met the REAL Lillian.

I like it better that Lily. More individual. But then I am no fan of shortened names!

sophiajane · 11/08/2008 23:25

Lillian's beautiful just give her Rose as a middle name like my DD2. Don't hyphenate!

janeite · 11/08/2008 23:24

I like it.

pointydog · 11/08/2008 23:22

Lilian's a bit blue rinse

unknownrebelbang · 11/08/2008 23:10

I'm not fond.

Lily/Lilly seems quite popular at the moment.

TheSmallClanger · 11/08/2008 22:57

Lilian is lovely. It's a family name on my Dad's side. It's a very dignified name and shortens to something nice and simple.
I have a very feisty nonagenarian great-aunt Lilian.

pucca · 11/08/2008 22:43

My dd is Lilly Edith. I picked the name so dh picked the spelling and i do regret not spelling it the "proper" way now, think it is much better spelt with one L in the middle.

HanniJay · 11/08/2008 22:39

Lily Rose is a character in a brilliant set of stories called "The Family from One End Street" by Eve Garnett, and also reminds me of the painting in the Tate - Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose which is beautiful. Felt the need to share those snippets with you!

MrsMattie · 10/08/2008 15:07

Lily is a very pretty (obviously extremely popular) name, but Lillian just reminds me of a librarian.

Lily Rose is sweet, but lose the hyphen.

princessglitter · 10/08/2008 15:05

Should I change or stick with Lily-Rose

there's also Lilius which I've always liked.

solo · 10/08/2008 13:49

Lily-Rose is beautiful, don't change it

MonkeyMargot · 10/08/2008 13:48

I like Lillian. She happens to be a very feisty (older) character in the Archers.

princessglitter · 10/08/2008 13:47

Ah, well I already have a Lily-Rose but am thinking of changing it to Lilian Rose as am worried her name is too popular. Don't really want a hyphen name again, I regret giving her a hyphen name. The alternative is to keep her name as it is, but ditch the hyphen.

One of my aunts is Lillian, but has never been called by that. She hates it.

solo · 10/08/2008 13:44

Lily-Anna

solo · 10/08/2008 13:43

Reminds me of someone I worked with years ago...she was Russian(I think)and sat making a meal from her nostils!

What about Lily-Anne?
