Rachel is one of the most popular names for girls in Ireland. #6 in 2002, the year that most of the children in my dc1's class were born. There are two in my DC1's class, and one in the class above. My cousin also has one.

Strange for a classic English name to 'rank' so differently in Ireland from in UK.

DD's middle name is Mary. I do agree with whoever said that a lot of these names were fashionable but had wilderness years before coming back round again.

My vote would be Elizabeth for a girl and James for a boy as the number one non-dating names.

Weegiemum · 13/08/2008 15:54

My dd2 is Rachel, and she's 4!

We know two others.

dd1 id Katherine, also pretty timeless IMO.

Having taught several Dianas and Kylies/Charlenes in the early 1990s (secondary school) I was determined to have undateable names.

Podrick · 13/08/2008 15:40

Stick to the names of the queens of England

goodie2shoes · 13/08/2008 15:38

Classics are in either bible, bronte, or austin.
Which did prove my point about the name Malachy (that I love) to my DH who wanted a classic name.
We argued about it for 1st son. Who isnt called Malachy now due to parental difference of opinion.

CrushWithEyeliner · 13/08/2008 11:21
