Hello all... I need some help. My DH and I have settled on calling our ds Legend Cougar or Cougar Legend. Which do you like better?

The only other option we will think of is Xander. Thanks for your help.

surely if you were a cougar you'd feel obliged to grow whiskers and run very fast. i don't think i could ever manage that, the pressure would be horrendous

zippitippitoes · 31/07/2008 08:51

imagine having to live up to either of those names they are just too ridiculous no one would call their kid either of them unless they were fruit loops

and in the us cougar is even more prevalent as the name for women to date young men than it is here

AllieBongo · 31/07/2008 08:51

this is v funny

AllieBongo · 31/07/2008 08:50

or Kingston and "upon Thames"

Babstefani · 31/07/2008 08:50

Ok, btw I am british and terribly middle-class, but i didn't realise that while I've been away fuckhead has become so popular.

Listen to ninedragons - why aren't you asking locals? There are a few mners in California, why don't you ask them.

Names like Cougar and Legend aren't often popular on mn. We like when children are called Fabio Isabella and Oliver.

Fanella · 31/07/2008 08:50

Well then how about Henley?

Goes quite nicely with Kingston..

AllieBongo · 31/07/2008 08:49

well over here, a cougar is a poor mans sports car made by ford and legend is an album by bob marley... you ca bring that argument into anything

CantSleepWontSleep · 31/07/2008 08:48

Cougar is the call sign of one of the pilots in Top Gun. Call him Maverick or Ice Man instead.

They are both truly dreadful. Go for Xander (with Alexander as the official version)

AllieBongo · 31/07/2008 08:46

sorry, i thought this was a piss take.

ninedragons · 31/07/2008 08:45

If that is the norm in California, seek opinions on Californian boards.

If you want to know what middle-class British women think about it, come to Mumsnet, where it is going to get more or less the same response as asking if you should call your baby Fuckhead.

lillypie · 31/07/2008 08:44

LOL AllieBongo this thread is cheering me right up

katiepotatie · 31/07/2008 08:43

Xander

AllieBongo · 31/07/2008 08:42

so gwen, when is your baby due? what does gavin think?

PersephoneSnape · 31/07/2008 08:42

you want him tough?! hope you enjoy ballet-momming him to his dance class. you can try to shape children into what you want them to be, but they do have their own personalities and will be happier being who they are, rather than what you want.

cougar is awful. awful and i tend to believe that people should call their children what they want. Xander is fine. everything he signs, is with a kiss.

lillypie · 31/07/2008 08:41

LOL LittleMissBliss

Fanella · 31/07/2008 08:41

Just had to google John Legend. I'm such an old fogey.

lillypie · 31/07/2008 08:39
Hmm
LittleMissBliss · 31/07/2008 08:39

John Legend! Think thats taken.

Shitehawk · 31/07/2008 08:39

Oh, please ...

Fanella · 31/07/2008 08:38

You could be really radical and call him something usual.

Go the whole hog and call him John.

gagarin · 31/07/2008 08:36

Why do you want him tough? Bullying can destroy as well as strengthen. It is a risk.

Give him Xander and Legend as his middle name
