Monty?

Would like to run a couple more names past everyone to see the general reaction.

Thinking about the name Monty which I think a great name. What do you all think? Is it too poncey or more suited to a dog?

Also like Theodore (Theo) and Rafael (though we aren't Spanish).

Also have several more traditional, popular names on the list but may be tricky getting DH to agree so exploring all options!!

Thank you- a few more positive responses now! It would actually go well with the surname and also with my other children's names.

I think it is a name which grows on people but, as Mrs Sprat says, it would take a lot of courage to go there in the first place!

Infact, when I mentioned it to DH last night his reponse was 'J*s' how pretentious' or similar so may not be able to persuade him of its merits anyway!!

Monty is a lovely name, it was on our list for DS2 but so wouldn't work with our surname that is abit like Python!!!

frazzledoldbag34 · 31/07/2008 10:32

oooh, I like beagles.

Sorry, oh yes Monty. It's growing on me. Would possibly use it myself but would sound ridiculous with my surname!

branflake81 · 30/07/2008 15:11

But Monty Panesar isn't his real name, it's Mudhsuden

expatinscotland · 30/07/2008 15:05

Jony and Monty are GREAT names! For a brace of beagles.

MrsSprat · 30/07/2008 15:04

We toyed with Monty too, but DC turned out to be a DD. I don't think it would have gone anywhere, maybe a middle name in longer form. I think it's a grower too, but needs quite a lot of courage and conviction to go there in the first place.

Rafael - a bit meh!
Theo - okay (secretly not as good as Monty!)

ten10 · 30/07/2008 14:46

what about Jonty as an alternative to Monty

Theo is nice

TheFallenMadonna · 30/07/2008 14:36

Noooo to Monty

Theo, yes.

LadyOfWaffle · 30/07/2008 14:32

Monty = Montgomery surely? DH really wanted it last time, but I didn't like Montgomery that much... then I found out he had a dog called Monty so drew the line!

Monty Don
Monty Panasar

Go for it.

bessmum · 30/07/2008 06:24

I love Monty, I'd like it to use it too but DH refuses as he feels it is a dog's name. If it goes with your surname I think it would be great and would grow on people.

olyoly · 30/07/2008 06:01

I have an Uncle Monty, actually. Quite like the name.

hw2004 · 29/07/2008 21:44

I don't think i'd choose Monty myself but I think it's quite cute. I'm just not sure I can imagine a teenager being called Monty.

Personally I like Raphael. I remember when Raphael Nadal won Wimbledon and thought that it was a cool name and Raf would be a nice shortening.

loobylu3 · 29/07/2008 20:55

Wow! That was some reaction! Unfortunately mostly negative.
I think it is the kind of name that may produce a negative reaction at first (as it is unusual) but would probably 'grow on you' if you knew a child by that name. All the responders who know a little Monty seem to like it.
Thank you anyway- will have a think!

I know a Monty, aged 5. I educated my children the other day explaining who Field Marshall Montgomery of Alamein was...

I like it as a name. Theo is good too. I love Rafael as a name but I do think you could only use it if married to a Spaniard/Italian. Everyone will know you have a lust for Nadal, won't they?!

EffiePerine · 29/07/2008 20:38

Montmorency is a good name

the dog in 3 men in a boat IIRC

EffiePerine · 29/07/2008 20:38

Theodore is OK

Uncle Monty - no

Rafael - if not spanish would spell Raphael - not keen

funnypeculiar · 29/07/2008 20:37

Am also assuming you'll have a 'long name' - reckon your options are Montmorency, Montague or Montgomery

lilQuidditchKel · 29/07/2008 20:36

absolutely NEVER

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/07/2008 20:35

I like Monty/Montgomery, but there are 2 baby Montys by us already!

chipmonkey · 29/07/2008 20:34

I knew a little Monty once and he was quite cute, one of twins. So that has biased me in favour of Monty!

RustyBear · 29/07/2008 20:31

Why do you say we're mean, vanload? OP wanted to 'see the general reaction' & that's what she got.

meglet · 29/07/2008 20:31

Monty is great. The cricketer (Panesar) is cool.

Theodore and Rafael are nice too.

southeastastra · 29/07/2008 20:30

you have to call him montgomery don't you, not just monty
