Baby name challenge

seeker · 28/07/2008 18:11

Just to prove you don't have to go "made-up" to give your child a name that no one else in the school has, I challenge you all to come up with names that are real, proper people names (not the names of geographical features, cars, wines or plants) that nobody on here knows anyone under 10 called.

I'll start.

Barbara, Monica, Sharon, Agnes, Alan, Grant, Trevor, Jeffrey and Malcolm.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

i dont think its that particularly, i think you just have to make sure you look on the internet for the most popular names and make sure your child isnt called any of them

or just call it a name from another country. welsh names are beautiful and most are scarcely heard of in england, apart from like rhiannon and bethan

these names are beautiful: carys, eleri, delphi, callie-rose

and i know one child called eleri and no others from that list under the age of 10

imnotyourmother · 17/08/2008 21:50

I've got a Humphrey, a Cecily and a Frederick (second two are middle names)

LongLiveCuckoo · 17/08/2008 20:47

Jscot, I have a Richie. (Richard on the bc)

I like Victor and Bruce and Donald too.

Girls names I like Belinda and Valerie.

Evelynsmum · 17/08/2008 20:32

I think my middle name (Edna) is unlikely to be present in the under 10's. Can't see it having a revival anytime soon either.

bikerunski · 17/08/2008 14:35

I know loads of Adams of all ages, several under 5!

Ambrose
Christian
Ian
Steven

I know a teenaged Rosemary and met a toddling Concepta not long ago.

Has anyone mentioned Pauline and Patricia yet? Due for a revival, surely.

Boulders · 16/08/2008 21:03

Jeremy is a nice name but you don't see any of them uder 10.

chatname · 29/07/2008 18:46

We have an Adam. I would have been happy to call him Michael, too (dh vetoed it).

silverfrog · 29/07/2008 18:38

I know a 4 year old Paul, and a Cecily, and loads of florences (and one or two Floras)

KateF · 29/07/2008 16:35

Oh dear, I have a Philippa and a Susannah - I'm obviously completely out of touch . Also know young Maxine, John, Michael, Kevin and met new baby Eliza the other day. Certainly don't know any Traceys, Sharons or Garys under 10, or Pauls actually and I was at school with hundreds of them!

LadyThompson · 29/07/2008 16:26

In fact...off to start a thread about it

LadyThompson · 29/07/2008 16:22

Tracy used to be vv chic in the 1940s...like when Katharine Hepburn played Tracy Lord (witty heiress) in The Phildelphia Story...

I suppose Sharon was exotic, once. Shame really.

Which names are going to go rancid in the same manner? (Slight hijack of thread here).

I think...Jade

sweetkitty · 29/07/2008 16:19

Got to be good old Sharon and Tracy

Can you imagine having a baby Sharon now?

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/07/2008 16:14

I hope you're keeping track seeker, and will provide us with updates and a definitive list at the end .

singersgirl · 29/07/2008 14:32

I know at least one of all of these under 10:
Stephen
Jason
Peter
Sarah
Susannah
Philippa
Maud
Duncan
Michael
Jennifer
Miriam
Andr ew
Ronald and Kenneth (though they are American)

WipingAssAndTakingNames · 29/07/2008 14:08

I know a heap of pre-school aged Pearls. Alright, more like three. There's an Edwin at dd1s nursery, and last year there was a Geoffrey and a Margaret. Two people I know have young Jennifers, and Jennifer supposedly dwindled out from about 1980 onwards after having a boom in the 70s.

I heard somebody in a cafe mention their toddler's name being Graham the other day. That's a name I haven't heard on anyone under 30 in years.

OldGregg · 29/07/2008 13:49

There is a Samantha AND a Justin in DS1s Reception class (or are they Year 1 now?!).

Also know a teenage Phillipa, a couple of Berties, a toddling Eliza, a baby Betsy and pre-schoolers called Florence, Annie and Cecily.

LadyThompson · 29/07/2008 13:16

Sacha Baron Cohen/Isla Fisher's daughter is called Olive. Cute, I think.
