Cecily has too many S sounds for me, although I don't dislike it, it's elegant but a littletoo hissy. Verity is in the same style but much prettier IMO.

CuckooClockWiseGuy · 29/07/2008 21:10

Nancy Astor. The name is kinda light-hearted but strong too..

Spink · 29/07/2008 14:15

... and Nancy Mitford too..

Cies.... now you see, Nancy from S&A and Nancy Drew would be what would persuade me to do it!

Blocky · 29/07/2008 09:45

Nancy is a derivative of Ann, was my grandmothers name. Old fashioned now, but uncommon enough and (i think) very pretty, but cheeky IFSWIM. If you are going to have Ann as a middle name then the other two are lovely.

kslatts · 29/07/2008 09:43

I like Connie or Nancy.

ruty · 29/07/2008 08:50

i wanted Cecily but dh vetoed it.

Elasticwoman · 28/07/2008 20:00

I've got a Cecily. Dh was concerned that people would call her Cess Pit but they don't. She is named after Cecily Parsley (Beatrix Potter), St Cecilia and Cecily from The Importance of Being Earnest. And also a nice girl called Cecily that I knew at the time, who played the cello.

MonkeyMargot · 28/07/2008 16:47

Spink - when we were little my sister Sarah had a lisp, and I couldn't pronounce my "R's" (I'm Rachel). Fortunately, we both grew out of it!

Spink · 28/07/2008 15:44

Ooh, you see now I am confused. I think Connie is off the list, and I really like Nancy, but see what people mean about the Nancy Anne thing and we are definitely having Anne.

Cecily is a new addition to the list so just getting used to it and I love it.. but then yesterday I had the irrational preg fear that it would be awful if little Cecily had a lisp...

Constance Anne would be nice, and Cecily Anne is pretty. Nancy Anne doesn't work for me even if Nancy wasn't a variation of Ann.

hw2004 · 28/07/2008 15:09

Would definately go for Nancy - I love it.

I used to like Connie but reminds me of that little girl who was in Britain's Got Talent or the annoying one from Maria!!

Cies · 28/07/2008 08:12

I quite like Constance, shortened to Connie.

Cecily, or even better Cecilia, is nice.

Not keen on Nancy - sounds v old-fashioned. It makes me think of Nancy Drew and Nancy from Swallows and Amazons, as well as my step-grandmother.

AbbeyA · 28/07/2008 07:50

I am exploring my family history and so far I have found a Nancy twice-both christened Ann.

thumbwitch · 28/07/2008 02:26

Nancy can be a derivative for both Ann(e) and Agnes apparently see this page

LongLiveGreenElizabeth · 27/07/2008 23:22

Nancy. That's lovely. Cecily too many Ss, and I can't remember the third name on your list, but it wasn't nice, I remember that!

MakemineaGandT · 27/07/2008 20:48

wow - thanks mrswoolf - I'm now trying to work out how to search the document....i.e. for a particular name - or do I have to scroll through the whole thing?!

mrs woolf - thanks for replying - I cut and pasted your link but it didn't work....

I can't find that level of info on the office for national stats website - only top 100 names. I'd really love to be able to look at the top 1000 plus percentage increases/decreases - can you try linking again?

Thanks ever so...

loobylu3 · 27/07/2008 19:28

I like Cecily the best (Is on my girl's shortlist near the top).

Connie and Nancy are also nice though

myredcardigan · 27/07/2008 16:06

Nancy isn't for Anne as far as I know. I've known 3 Nancys. One was just Nancy and the other two were both Agnes.

I do like Connie though I'd have to call her Constance.

MrsMattie · 27/07/2008 15:42

Nancy is lovely. Connie - jury's out, can't decide if I like it or not. Hate Cecily - posh and pretentious.

Elk · 27/07/2008 11:47

Nancy seems to be gaining in popularity at the moment. I know 2 little girls called Nancy.
