Naming a boy - why so hard??

Because I just can't think of any that I like that haven't been used by friends or family.
I like William, Edward, Theo, Simon, David but all have been used. Don't want something too common but also don't want wacky. I have no problem if it's a girl but I'm really stumped for a boy. I'm only a few weeks pregnant but I want to get some names straight in my head.

Any ideas? We have Irish and Italian parents so could be inspired by that. I never thought that I'd post in baby names but here I am

Rory - if you like 'rah' names!

SquiffyHock · 23/07/2008 23:14

I like Peter but think it would wind me up if it was shortened to Pete. I like Tim but don't like Timothy. Lots that I like but DH is a tough cookie, so far he has only offered the names of himself, his brother and his dad!!

Let's hope it's a girl hey?

Oooh, GreenLizzie - Lots I like there. My friend has always said she wants a Tadhg otherwise I would persuade DH to that!

I really like Gregory but DH had said no for the third time! I've just suggested Bruno and he said 'Mmm, that's quite cool' High praise indeed!!

What about Rafferty with Raff for short. That's sort of Irish and Italian.

I also love Seamus and Hamish too. Jago is the same name really. All James. Jago Cornish for James but Cornish Celtic and ends in 'o' so I think it is a nice fit for Irish/Italian family.....?

Riccardo with Richie for short, that would work.

norkmaiden · 23/07/2008 22:16

Reuben?

I like Rafe. Agree James is v unexciting

LongLiveGreenElizabeth · 23/07/2008 22:16

What about Bruno? A saint apparently! Or Leo.. too like Theo.

If you like Theo, what about Thaddeus. Could be Teddy or Theo for short.

I like Marcus, Gregory, Barnaby, Dominic, Frederick/Freddy, Richard/Richie.

Celtic names I like, Lorcan, Tadhg, Fergus (gus), Cian, Diarmuid.

I also like Jago and could see it having the right vibe to work as it is very like Iago despite being Cornish.

Any help? Are any of these your cup of tea?

I like Victor, Bruce, Donald and Howard. To my ear they sound classic but unfashionable (for now) which personally I like.

SquiffyHock · 23/07/2008 22:14

Love Dominic but DH doesn't

Norkmaiden, my friend has a girl Koren and a boy Jude - gorgeous names. I quite like Seamus...
DD would have been James but this time around I'm not sure if it's a bit boring.

i like Rafe but think it may be a teeny bit pretentious but I'm quite drawn to 'rah' names
