You say you don't mind harsh-I think they are horrible!

LuLuBai · 17/07/2008 19:03

Auriel is lovely. For a girl.

Nancy66 · 17/07/2008 15:22

Both pretty awful.
Gene is better.

gegs73 · 17/07/2008 14:22

I like Geno, my Italian nephew is called it but spelt Gino. Hate Auriel sounds like a girls name.

seeker · 17/07/2008 14:18

Auriel is a girl's name.
Geno looks like a misspelling of Gino.

Please don't give a boy a girl's name - it'c cruel and unfair.

branflake81 · 17/07/2008 14:12

Geno, oh geno ginelli icecreamo....

pointydog · 16/07/2008 23:15
  1. Auriel - girly
  1. Geno - italian, dexy's m idnight runners
chegirl · 16/07/2008 23:10

I really like Geno.

Not sure about the other one but I dont hate it. It does look a little feminine though so could cause confusion.

If you like them - go for it. Why not call him both?

Blandmum · 16/07/2008 23:04

no and no unless they are ethnically linked to you and you are driven to use them beyond rational thought

Spidermama · 16/07/2008 23:02

Gino is fantastic. I love it. I have one in my extended family but spelt Gjino because his Dad is Albanian.

Auriel is nice too. I think you should ignore the wild ranters. They're the usual suspects when it comes to anything other than Jack and Finn and they're not to be taken seriously.

Heifer · 16/07/2008 22:59

Ok, my polite answer would be;

I think they may be unusual names for a reason...

Ceelo · 16/07/2008 22:57

i love Geno....by the way...no one younger than 33 has even heard of Dexy's midnight Runners song Geno so don't stress about that connection!!! i doubt anyone kids in 2013 will be singing a song from 1980.

i put up a post about my potential baby names and people stomped on it and i wasn't even asking for their opinion.
if you like them, then fine.

my husband'sname is really unusual and everyone remember him and he is really confident...it's all about standing out from the crowd!

Hulababy · 16/07/2008 22:23

Not keen on either, sorry.

OurHamsterisevil · 16/07/2008 21:05

I like Auriel, but I do think it sounds feminine. Not sure about Geno

lou031205 · 16/07/2008 19:10

I would say they are unusual for a reason!

ScummyMummy · 16/07/2008 18:40

both vile

nooka · 16/07/2008 18:40

I don't like either of them for CDs reasons. If you really like Auriel I would chose the more common spelling Uriel, but it's still very obscure, and a bit feminine.

Geno is fab and I would love to call my ds it.

floaty · 16/07/2008 18:33

Auriol is a girls name ,I know two.Isn't she the spirit in Shakespeareares The Tempest?

tommiles001 · 16/07/2008 18:28

Auriel sounds like a morph of the rather popular names Aurora and Ariel, but it doesn't sound that nice though, IMHO.

MummyDoIt · 16/07/2008 18:15

As others have said, Auriel too much like the mermaid and the washing powder. He'll be given hell in the playground. Plus he'll have to spend the rest of his life spelling it out to people.

I know an Eileen who is thoroughly sick of people singing 'Come on Eileen' to her so would not recommend naming your child after a Dexy's song.

donnie · 16/07/2008 18:14

I used to know a girl named Oriel.

Fanella · 16/07/2008 18:10

The Archangel was Uriel. I know cos it's in a Kate Bush song

Geno reminds me of the Dexys song or makes me think of a stereotypical Noo Yoik Italian pizza shop owner.

TwoFir · 16/07/2008 18:07

Auriel in the playground may become oral
What about the little mermaid spelling?
less aural
