I like it, but won't she get called Duff? Though according to my baby names book, there is a boy's name Duff!

How about... erm...

Dymphna
Dulcie! Dulcie Darcy
Daffodil (yes it's in the book - cool book I have)
Delphine

MN is quite conservative on the whole as far as names go. If I were you I'd keep the name under your hat. Don't let anyone else know in case they pull a face or display their lack of familiarity in some other way.

Less common names are getting more common ifkwim. It's only at this point (ie when you're still considering, so the name isn't quite real yet) that people feel the need to question and critisise, therefore, when you come up with such a beauty as this, which also has real roots in your family, you should keep on the right track and don't let anyone divert you. Take, for example, Tiger Woods. 'Tiger' that is. No-one's disputing or even questioning his name now are they. Because it's real now, and what a cracker.

I think you got a good 'un and you know it.

Ignore these fools with no imagination. A name has come to you straight from the heavens and it is your duty to stand by it. She will thank you for it.

ThinWhiteDuchess · 15/07/2008 23:07

Ah see, I love Daphne -- it's my mother's name. She loathes it though and when I told her our DD's middlename would be my MIL's, she said thank God it's not Daphne!
I personally think that Daphne Darcy would be a lovely name.

DonnyLass · 15/07/2008 23:07

spidermama

you rock

I actually love it too despite the likely onslaught from family and secret scoffs of friends!

Fimbo · 15/07/2008 23:06

This is a wind up - right?

DonnyLass · 15/07/2008 23:06

Joking ...

dina-rod,

Spidermama · 15/07/2008 23:05

I LOVE it. I really like alliteration with names. My sister led the way and two of my sons have alliterative names.

Duffy Darcy is utterly inspired and a total, absolute must. To ignore this would be to look the proverbial gifthorse in the mouth.

ChukkyPig · 15/07/2008 23:04

So Duffy isn't short for anything then?

In that case prob not IMO will look like named after the singer.

Must be loads of D names though! Delia, delilah, dinah, diana...

elmoandella · 15/07/2008 22:58

duffy was a surname original. just been used as a first name.

a bit like thomas is both a first and last name

ChukkyPig · 15/07/2008 22:55

Know Duffy is your surname.

But Duffy as a girl's name must be short for something?

Anyone know what?

DonnyLass · 15/07/2008 22:52

lol suwoo ... yup youre right (although I look like a twat most of the time, noting new there!)

quite like doris too ... no I'm not kidding, and yes most people recoil at my general name likes!

OP posts:
elmoandella · 15/07/2008 22:52

dionne
daria

dorothy (dolly for short)
donna

does it have to be d

DonnyLass · 15/07/2008 22:50

dangleberry?????

but Duffy is an actual family name not one I am making up ... not trying to be 'different' but would like to keep a family heritage in there and thought Duffy D'Arcy was fun

oops starting to sound defensive now ... soz ... I'll shut up and see what the consensus is!

OP posts:
suwoo · 15/07/2008 22:47

Delilah rocks but Duffy is too much due to the current singer, you would look like a twat that had copied her. There must be some more cool D names about.....somewhere??

DonnyLass · 15/07/2008 22:47

i know what you mean duchess

I really did like Daphne then thought its not v strong ... you think dappy=daffy dont you ... or of daphne from neighbours and start wanting a smoothie ...

OP posts:
elmoandella · 15/07/2008 22:47
