Love Duffy - do it! By the time your dd is in school, no one will even remember the feeble singer. I love that it is your family name too. Dulcie would be a good second choice imho. Francesca a lovely middle name and she can always use that if she wants.

Hunnie · 22/07/2008 17:50

Daphne is lovely!! I love it; always has. Go for that!

kekouan · 20/07/2008 21:38

fluffy arse(y)

and kids can be far more creative.

saralou · 20/07/2008 19:31

my surname is very similar to yours.... don't do it!!!!!!!!!!

it rhymes with far to many things (at least my version does!!!!

i was plagued at school with the many nicknames.

my colleagues think it's great fun to call me 'duffster'

god i hate it!!!!!!!!

DonnyLass · 20/07/2008 11:04

urm ... how come this has made it to discussions of the day ... guess you shouldnt put things up here if you dont want to be 'open to the nation'

crapping it now that all the names i am thinking about will suddenly become v common

that'll teach me

A little bit of Hyacinth Bucket perhaps ?

D'Arcy DooFay ?

Pinions · 18/07/2008 19:04

Duffy D'Arcy. It's awful, sorry.

Francesca D'Arcy, yes.

LOl at pornstar.

DonnyLass · 18/07/2008 17:50

TheMagnificent7 · 18/07/2008 17:49

Daphne good, Delilah brilliant, love Francesca.

Duffy = Casualty

But...if you have D'arcy, why not D'uffy ? Or stick a 'de la' in there. Duffy Francesca de la D'arcy

DonnyLass · 18/07/2008 17:38

ok

will you all be happy if I call her

Daphne Francesca [Duffy] D'Arcy

and we just keep the Duffy bit 'in the famleee'

I know what you mean about the daphne in scooby doo ... but Im chasin the more erudite daphne du maurier ... strong female novelist, etc

OP posts:
Wilkiepedia · 18/07/2008 17:34

Fecking awful - poor child! Don't do it she'll hate you forever

DonnyLass · 18/07/2008 17:32

Wow ... some strong opinions .... that's not what I expected but its all valuable!

Watch this space ... when you hear of an amazing medical science breakthru, the first astronaut on Mars or someone breaking the ladies sprint record and you hear ...

Duffy D'Arcy did it!

then you'll remember this thread and think ahaaaa...... what an amazing woman

Francesca D'Arcy is beautiful, please use it.

Duffy Darcy sounds vaguely insulting, maybe because 'duff' can mean poor quality or because of 'up the duff'

Youcanthaveeverything · 18/07/2008 14:50

Delilah and Dilys. Sounds great!!!

Please, please please use it.

I have solved your problem for you.

My work is done here.

(please)

hoobyding · 18/07/2008 14:48

Call her Duffy D'Arcy by all means, but only as short for something that they can fall back on if they don't like it. ie Daphne.

We have a dd called Liesl for short (slightly foolish name) but called her Elizabeth as her long name. This was just in case when she is prime minister she doesn't have the opposition party singing 'I am sixteen going on seventeen' at her.

Oh, and if your hesband hates it, it will never be a goer. Give it up.

Youcanthaveeverything · 18/07/2008 14:47

How about Dilys?

We loved this name and it was on our list for a girl.

Dilys Darcy.

I like it.

LookattheLottie · 18/07/2008 14:23

I'm so sorry but Duffy Darcy sounds like a horse you bet on for the Grand National. I hate saying negative things about people's name choices and try not to do it as I hated it when people did it to me. Sorry.

Francesca D'Arcy sounds fine.
Daphne D'Arcy sounds fine, I'm not a big fan of having two names together that begin with the same letter, or the name itself, but it sounds surprisingly good together.

Daphne Francesca D'Arcy, leave out the Duffy.
