Violet's actually the nickname for Viola as are Violeta (Spanish), Violetta (Italian), and Violette (French). Look at the name Viola.

landj · 15/07/2008 21:23

Really wanted Violet for my DD but dh kept saying "Violet you're turning violet Violet".
All I could picture was the big round blueberry girl from Willie Wonka.

EffiePerine · 15/07/2008 20:58

violet and viola both good

oh, I badly wanted to call my dd violet, but my dp sad it made him think of violent
I think it's a beautiful name.
I also love villanelle and vianne on the v theme and I love iris too, all sadly vetoed

cadelaide · 15/07/2008 20:49

Lovely.
Viola lovelier still.

violetsmile · 15/07/2008 20:47

Fab name!!!! I may be biased though!!! lol. I hate being called Vi though but thankfully people don't seem to shorten it, I'm thinking when I'm old and wrinkley with a blue rinse then I'll make peace with the name Vi!!

Madlentileater · 14/07/2008 19:33

Violet Elizabeth Bott.
'I'll scream and I'll scream and I'll scream till I make myself sick'

LongLiveGreenElizabeth · 14/07/2008 19:31

I agree MADBAD, there is a character from a book or TV, or a game (Zelda!) or a doll, or a toy with every name I can think of.

MadBadandDangeroustoKnow · 13/07/2008 23:52

I love all the flower names and especially Violet/Viola and Primrose. Don't be deterred by Fifi and the Flowertots - the name will last a lifetime but most children's TV series last only a couple of years!

gigglewitch · 13/07/2008 22:43

thank you LLGE!
I think she's got a book and vid at Grandma's!!
she only mentioned Primrose once, and it appeared to be something to do with another child... I thought it might be a new child at nursery
am sooooooo out of touch

dinny · 13/07/2008 22:30

Love it, my Nana's name

would shorten it to Letty

LongLiveGreenElizabeth · 13/07/2008 22:29

She's in Fifi and the Flower Tots gigglewithc!! Does she also call out "Primrose"?

LongLiveGreenElizabeth · 13/07/2008 22:28

i PREFER Vilette if that's nto too Bronteyesque.

gigglewitch · 13/07/2008 22:27

smiled when i saw this on the board. I love the name, but have to laugh when my 2yo DD keeps shouting "yoo-hoo, Violet" down the garden
I don't know who Violet is

Nancy66 · 13/07/2008 22:24

I think it's a great name.
it's still my No1 choice. It's cute, feminine, a little different but not daftly so.

Fimbo · 13/07/2008 21:26

It's my mil's name. She hates it.

CapnLoLa · 13/07/2008 21:26

ChukkyPig · 13/07/2008 21:25

janeite · 13/07/2008 21:09

Love Violet, though agree with MaryAnnSingleton that Vi isn't good.

Litterbug · 13/07/2008 21:09
