Evelyn or Megan?

DH and I are at loggerheads debating these two names. I like the first, he likes the latter. I like Meg, not keen on Megan but DH says that Meg goes better with DS's name.

I don't want to discourage him as he has spent the last 23 weeks set on one name that I vetoed and refusing to budge so any movement in the name department is good.

So which do you prefer?

AND, if you like Evelyn, what other names do you like or possibly choose for your children as I love the name but feel strange using it?

Thanks!

Had forgotten about this thread

Have started another now as DH and I have managed to agree to start afresh in the name search as we were clearly never going to agree so I do not have to consider Megan anymore, fortunately for me.

You can all come and post on my new name alliteration thread

piratecat · 20/08/2008 20:14

no more megans please

3013 · 20/08/2008 20:05

Megan is a lovely name. If you think it is too popular, how about using the middle name with it?

Megan-eve
Megan-rose

etc...

nappyaddict · 04/08/2008 00:23

Evelyn without a doubt

halogen · 13/07/2008 21:02

Eliza is lovely.

LazyLinePainterJane · 13/07/2008 15:40

I quite like Eliza.

My daughter is Evelyn. I have always liked the name.
Other girls names I like...
Jemima
Matilda
Gabriella
Lily-Rae

Grav1 · 13/07/2008 12:50

DD and DH think that it's Meredith for a female and Meredydd for a male.

Sim43 · 12/07/2008 18:07

I thought a famous actor was called Meredith, I might be wrong though (probably am). How about Eliza I think that is quite cute.

Bronze · 12/07/2008 14:31

Evelyn I am biased though.

LazyLinePainterJane · 12/07/2008 14:29

Now you're just stirring up trouble Sim

Isnt Meredith a boys name too.

LazyLinePainterJane · 12/07/2008 14:15

Clementine is a bit of a no-hope anyway, DH laughs every time I mention the name

I know someone here recently called their DD Meredith, it grows on me the sore I hear it.

Meredith is gorgeous.

halogen · 12/07/2008 11:11

Penelope - no, just don't like Penny very much
Ruth - yes
Cecile - yes, lovely
Clementine - really like this but would worry about fruit associations. What about Clemency?
Laurel - love it
Sylvia - really like this and I wouldn't have said that a few years ago
Jennifer - don't like at all and really dislike Jenny as a nickname
Rowan - like it

LazyLinePainterJane · 12/07/2008 09:06

I also like

Meredith
Camille

Megveline and Evangelmeg

I think I might just call her baby. I have had enough of thinking up names. It wasn't this hard with DS, I feel much more under pressure to come up with a lovely yet practical girls name.

Sorry I cannot stand Evelyn, to me it's one of those biddy names that just isn't fashionable, unlike Florence, Kitty, Violet and Mary etc, it reminds me of Heavelyn, yuck sorry, Edith is another one I just don't get it.

I'd go for Megan.

Sorry for rant.

Astrophe · 11/07/2008 22:40

If you like Eleanor but not Ellie, what about Alana / Ali?

shirleyghostman · 11/07/2008 22:35

Evelyn is a much nicer name than Megan.

3andnomore · 11/07/2008 22:24

Evelyn wins hands down....admittedly I do not like the name Megan, I find it very harsh sounding and ungirly, sorry to all the Megans out there ( I feel the same about my own name, by the way, lol)

23balloons · 11/07/2008 22:24

Evelyn - if I had a girl that would be her name but only have boys.....
