Have only got Samuel, Luc and Felix on our list so far, none of which seem quite right. Don't want anything TOO French in case we (or he!) ever move back to the UK! Have got about 6 weeks left (hopefully)Thanks!

Hugo is worst in Dutch.

Anyway, my vote goes for Xavier. Or you could go for Hippolyte (it's my BIL's brother's name )

Anna8888 · 11/07/2008 15:20

I'm the other way round - I like Hugo much better in French than in English

Walkthedinosaur · 11/07/2008 15:20

Doesn't matter what you call him, he'll always be Bernard to me!

ggglimpopo · 11/07/2008 15:19

I don't like Hugo in french - think tis lovely in English. Hugo great, Ugo ugh.

Personally I would go for a name that has identical spelling in French and English.

So:

Hugo
Thomas
Eric
Guy
Theo
David

are all fine.

Julien
Alexandre
Guillaume

are not.

CharlotteYork · 11/07/2008 15:06

Hugo

LuLuBai · 11/07/2008 13:04

Anton - kind of generally Euro (although Antoine would be more French)

branflake81 · 11/07/2008 12:05

Emeric?

I know a Loïc. The name is from Brittany. I think it's lovely.

Jerome is lovely and works in English too

Jenpet, if you are concerned about how it works when you go back to the UK, don't choose Sylvain.

I know a Sylvain who works in the UK and he switched to his middle name at work because although his colleagues got used to it they pronounced it atrociously and whenever he got sent business mail, everyone sent it to Sylvia and assumed he was a woman.
