I love this name and having been fighting against it but it's the only name i've liked constantly - is it a silly name?

Don't think it's remotely silly BTW, just quite little girl. Does it pass the name test for you ie

"This is your Captain, Poppy Smith, speaking"

"Hello, I'm Dr Poppy Smith and I'll be doing your brain surgery today"

"Hello I'm Poppy Smith and I'll be cutting your hair this afternoon"

" I love you, Poppy"

If it does and you like it = go for it!

Really liked it for DD2 but was concerned about how it would stand up as a grown up name. I wouldn't want to do my job (stuffy and boring lawyer) with a name which I associate as suiting little girls. HOWEVER, the compromise we would have gone for was Phillipa on the birth cert, but known as Poppy.

In the end, she didn't look like a poppy so we went for Matilda.

Not at all! We have one and always get positive comments on it (despite her being a complete tomboy rascal monster )

Swedes · 09/07/2008 20:33

But don't give her the middle name Cherry.
