Honestly, truthfully please. My daughter is called Elizabeth, but we call her Beth. I'm a little conerned that some people call her 'beff' and some say 'our beth' sounding like Arbeth.
Do you think we should shorten it to something else, such as Liza or Elsie?

Beth is lovely. wish it went with our surnames (double barrel)... don't worry too much about how other people say it, it's a pretty name.

TigerFeet · 10/07/2008 18:19

Beth is lovely. DD has a friend called Beth - not as a diminutive, just Beth

AnnieLaurie70 · 10/07/2008 18:14

Beth is a beautiful name. I would stick with it!

UnderRated · 08/07/2008 04:55

I like Beth.

It is my sister's nickname. DS (2.9) calls her Aunty Beff. One of our good friends is Betty (3) and she tells everyone, "My name is Betty but some people call me Elizabeff"

superloopy · 08/07/2008 02:41

My DD is Beth.

It is just Beth, not short for anything.

I think it is a very sweet simple pretty name.

handlemecarefully · 08/07/2008 00:12

beth is really quite pleasant and inoffensive

Purplepillow · 08/07/2008 00:11

I have a Bethany too but she only lets her fav aunt shorten it to..... Betty because when she was a toddler she had hair like Betty Boop

madmarriedNika · 08/07/2008 00:04

Beth is gorgeous, one of my fave names even as a "stand alone" not shortened name

Beth is lovely, I would use it as a short for Bethany not Elizabeth as there are too many options with Elizabeth which I don't like. If only DH agreed with me it would be much simpler!

andyrobo237 · 07/07/2008 21:22

one of my niece's is a 'Beth' just simple and short - it is a great name.

Hulababy · 07/07/2008 21:17

Beth is a pretty name; I like it.

OurHamsterisevil · 07/07/2008 21:15

I adore Beth. I had a childhood friend called Beth. Not short for Elizabeth. Her sister has just called her DD2 Phoebe Beth. Beautiful IMO.

Much prefer it to other shortened versions of Elizabeth

kiddiz · 05/07/2008 22:03

I love Beth. Wanted dd to be Beth but dh didn't. She has Elizabeth as a second name as a compromise

bethoo · 05/07/2008 21:51

my name is Elizabeth but am refered to as Beth. i always thought it was much prettier than Liz

greenelizabeth · 05/07/2008 21:43

I love Beth. Very pretty. I also like Eliza and Libby but I know a few of them, I think they are more popular. Beth is very pretty and at the moment the rarest nn from Elizabeth, so it's a great name and a lovely nn!

hashim · 05/07/2008 21:39

Thanks for making me feel better. I suppose when she is older she can change it to another dimunitive if she so wishes.

It's my name and I love it too. sometimes get called Beff- but never think about it really.

don't worry about it.

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/07/2008 21:12

too Little Women for me

sweetkitty · 05/07/2008 21:11

Beth not good with our surname which is why we like Bethany, she can shorten it later is she wants.

onepieceoflollipop · 05/07/2008 21:02

We would have chosen Beth but it doesn't go with our surname, so we use another shortened version of the name. People will always try to shorten/cutify names. If they say "our Beth" then they would probably do the same with any other name e.g. "our hashim"

Love it btw, bit that it sounds rubbish with our surname!
