Italian boy names

I’m pregnant again! Yay!
I’m too early in pregnancy to know if I’ll be having a boy or a girl but I have girl names covered.

I already have a son, his name is Alessio. I want to keep the Italian theme going (I’m from Sicily originally & my husband is from Venezuela— Italian names translate well into Spanish & English) but I’m having a hard time finding other Italian boy names I like.

Any suggestions welcome

Saverio - when I lived in Italy I only ever met one!

Francesco
Leonardo /Leo
Matteo (is that Italian?)
Lorenzo
Luca

I have a friend called Domenico.

NamingNoNames · 17/10/2026 16:40

Is that 'gayb' or 'gabbeh'?

ProudCat · 17/10/2026 16:01

I teach an Italian boy called Gabe. His full name is Gabriele - English spelling Gabriel. He's proud of his Italian heritage.

OccasionalHope · 17/10/2026 14:28

Luca
Lorenzo
Niccolo
Giovanni
Vito
Benedetto
Giuseppe
Girolamo
Antonio
Dante
Lodovico
Dario
Mario
Carlo
Donato
Silvio
Luigi
Stefano
Marco
Paolo
Francesco
Federico
Riccardo
Enrico

I think those could all work here.

Steer clear of
Andrea
Simone
Daniele
Gabriele

as those spellings equates to English girls' names which will potentially lead to confusion.

I think only Marco is Italian out of that list?

Why the question mark?

Marco
Pietro
Vittorio
Edoardo
Michele

Absolutely love the name Luca and wish I had used it. It’s gorgeous but works all round!

I should have said that the Duarte would be a non-rhotic Doo-ar-tay.

Andrea will be AND-ree-uh not and-REY-ah, Nicola NIC-uh-luh, Alberto, al-BUR-toe etc

Andreas would fare better

ChihuahuaChica · 17/10/2026 00:14

Alberto is lovely and ticks both Spanish and Italian boxes!

Names like Leonardo will get said as Lee-o-nardo and names like Giacomo will get said as Gee-a-como.
The Gi- bit will mean misspellings.
Any thread on Giulia will have a few Guilia posts.

-a names (Andrea, Nicola, Elia...) look feminine in the UK, as do -ele (Rafaele, Michele...) names.

Duarte is nice but not the Doo-ar-tay you'd get in in the UK.

Edited

Yes, and Andrea will be called Andy by everyone, Nicola becomes Nick or Nicky

beeble347 · 16/10/2026 23:11

Gianni

Eduardo (is that right? I'm a Spanish speaker)

Nico

Big soft spot for Luca too

Chocolatesaltedcaramelballs · 16/10/2026 23:09

Ludovico

Nursemumma92 · 16/10/2026 23:07

I know brothers Alberto, Lorenzo and Luciano which I think are all lovely Italian boys names.

mathanxiety · 16/10/2026 16:34

We loved Carlo & Giovanni (Gio for short)

Sparklinggreen · 16/10/2026 16:01

Luca is lovely

CherryKerry · 16/10/2026 14:56

Lorenzo - love that and it's on my future pet names list!

Darkdiamond · 16/10/2026 14:55

Yiayoula · 16/10/2026 14:51

Raffaele
Luciano ( Luca for short ? )
Matteo
Francesco

I like Luciano but people might pronounce it Lucy-ano unless they are familiar with Pavarotti

Darkdiamond · 16/10/2026 14:53

Came on to say Alessio!

Luca is probably too obvious but definitely a classic.

I know a Vincenzo who is known as Enzo. Agree that Alessio and Alejandro are the same name basically.

I love Tobia, Enea and Elia if you like the a sound as I do, but you probably want the o to match with Alessio.

Giacomo, Tommaso, Leonardo (but people in Britain will likely say Lee-onardo), Damiano, Sebastiano
