I think I’m finally narrowed down to two options for my little guy who has been impossible to name, but now I need opinions! Which of these do we prefer? (Last name is two syllables, starts with H and ends in an -ee sound)

Marxence is popular for girls.

Shloopie · 11/10/2026 01:15

I like Lowen!

(really don't like Stetson though).

You're meeting with disapproval from people who name their sons Percy, so I wouldn't let it bother you too much. Congratulations on your new arrival 👶

HugoThatway · 10/10/2026 13:51

Have you considered Marxens? It's very popular here in the Home Counties.

I am very American! I’ve just been posting on every baby name forum I can find and was not expecting there to be such a big difference in naming culture!

We’ve got a bunch of Stetsons here, in Florida we have a Stetson University and that’s where a lot of minds go.

For Lowen, we’re seeing a bunch of Rowan/Bowen/Cohen, so it just fits into that bunch.

Meyer I got from the lemon and it was the surname of someone I love and look up to!

Parks is a family name going back to 1916 :)

Will definitely be sticking to more American forums for advice and never letting little man move abroad lol !!

I think this is a classic example of “two nations separated by a common language.”

I completely understand you wanting to use Parks if it’s a family surname but saying it goes “all the way back to 1916” will also get short shrift in the uk where people trace their names back centuries before your country was invented.

Sorry you feel attacked, but those names would definitely raise a laugh in the UK.

Congrats on your new baby though.

Really? You defo need a hobby then.

Eh?

sanityisamyth · 09/10/2026 13:49

Seriously?!

ICantStomachWhelks · 09/10/2026 13:47

You're a good sport, OP, for coming back and confirming your American bonafides in good humour. Grin
I like Lowen a lot, I also love Lowell as suggested by a PP.

Congrats on the baby.

HugoThatway · 09/10/2026 13:44

My-er in German, Mey-ir in Hebrew. OP is in USA.

Banjas · 09/10/2026 13:39

Lowen is nice

Pemba · 09/10/2026 13:39

Is Meyer pronounced like layer or fire? Because that's like the girl's name Maya.

Also you could see it as disrespectful to the Jewish community, though not as much so as Cohen.( For non Jewish people to use it.)

HugoThatway · 09/10/2026 13:31

@MeetMeOnTheCorner ,Meyer is 100% Jewish. It's German.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 08/10/2026 19:53

Meyer is 100% Jewish. Meyer Rothschild for example. Not for me unless you are Jewish of course. The other name is just odd. I get Parks as a family name but I’d go Rowan.

The cattle are lowin' ...

That's exactly what I thought, and I know its not Christmas yet 🤣

These names are hysterical! I’m howling with laughter here! 😂😂

Really? You defo need a hobby then.

Meyer is the best of the three.

I'm in the US and know a couple of Meyers, aged between ten and sixteen.

Stetson is a name that might burden a child.
Lowen is just a sound similar to other names.

Would you consider -
Lowell
Maxwell
Fintan (Irish name)
Davis
Tiernan
Griffin

CeciliaMars · 07/10/2026 17:41

They don’t sound like names. They sound like holiday camps.

Julynian · 07/10/2026 17:23

Meyer and Stetson are just not for me. But I see you are American and there’s different styles and preferences there. I do like Lowen so that’s my choice of your three. I know a little boy called Loxen which you might also like as an alternative.

Calliopespa · 07/10/2026 16:49

Sparklinggreen · 07/10/2026 06:54

Went for Lowen, as that’s the one I liked the sound of best

The cattle are lowin' ...

MissingMeadow · 06/10/2026 07:53

I live right by a Meyer Park.

They did all sound like parks. Stetson Park especially sounded like the cowboy area of a theme park!

I think with surname style names you have to be careful of this effect with a surname like yours OP.

Mosaic80 · 07/10/2026 09:56

I actually like Lowen! Not keen on the others though - mainly because they don’t sound nice to my ear for some reason, a bit harsh sounding somehow. I do have a DC with a slightly American type name though and as I’ve got older I’ve loved hearing new and different names so I’m not as much of a name traditionalist as many on MN.

thisismeithinkorisit · 07/10/2026 09:52

anything followed by Parks is going to make him sound like a destination

KnickerlessParsons · 07/10/2026 09:39

What wring with John, David, Michael, Robert etc???

LambriniBobInIsleworthISeesYa · 07/10/2026 09:14

None of these are good (or even names) but Stetson is especially bad. Please don’t name a kid that, especially (I assume) a British kid.

Zippidydoodah · 07/10/2026 08:38

Meyer, though actually when saying it, sounds like Maya (girls name).

funny that you’d post on a uk forum for advice on an American kid’s name! You have some truly bonkers names out there (as do we, I suppose!) 🤣

congrats on the little guy 💙

INeedaDietcoke · 06/10/2026 10:58

OP you're getting a rough ride due to cultural differences but I can see all of those names working in the States, maybe Stetson is the most out there but fits with Easton/Grayson/Hudson vibes.

Of the three, Lowen would work best in the UK if you were wondering 😂 but I guess that's extremely irrelevant. It's my favourite too. Congrats on your baby!

Of course it would it’s a Cornish name
