Kelda sounds interesting, it could almost be a video game character.

It sounds a bit Northern European, Irish, German or Scandinavian.
Reminds me of Hilda which although common amongst Scottish granny's sounds a bit German to me.

It’s Scandinavian 😊

Caniweartheseones · 30/09/2026 11:09

Alkie for short? Sorry.

OK I promise I hear you!

Got carried away by the lovely Church and when I looked it up the Anglo Saxon Princess and Spring connection. I didn't see the 'strangled by Vikings' bit and the other negative connotations somehow went over my head 😬

Kelda would have been the short name which I do still like, and oddly I really like Annuciata but wont be using it 😂Alicia is a strong contender.

Thanks again to everyone who has taken the time to reply, I'm glad I posted.

It’s really awkward to say.

Sorry but I hate it. Strangely makes me think of al-Qaeda?

Exactly the same here 😩

Tsubasa1 · 30/09/2026 09:13

I prefer Isis!

MurphysColeslaw · 30/09/2026 09:06

You might like it OP.
In real life it will bomb.

notacooldad · 30/09/2026 09:00

😆

InQuiresandplaceswheretheysing · 29/09/2026 18:03

Reminds me of Alka seltzer

cartagenagina · 29/09/2026 18:03

Oh dear…

wishingonastar101 · 29/09/2026 17:43

Alkelda? love it.... works a treat to descale the kettle...

NewGirlInTown · 29/09/2026 17:27

Hideously clumsy and harsh.

VeryQuaintIrene · 29/09/2026 17:19

How about Isis if you're going for that terrorist vibe?

🤣🤣

mummymummymummummum · 29/09/2026 17:17

I know a Kelda, how about that?

sesquipedalian · 29/09/2026 17:17

It’s not a name if a saint I’ve ever heard of. I don’t think you’d be doing your DD any favours, OP….

BillieWiper · 29/09/2026 17:16

It does sound like a made up name from a very bad z list sci fi TV show or movie.

AgualusasL0ver · 29/09/2026 17:14

Does for her. For any baby being born now Al Qaeda is not really going to be so visceral in their cohort's memory. I probably wouldn't do it without some connection either culturally or religiously to said saint, but I don't think it is inherently a no go in a global world and only if I really loved it over and beyond anything else at all.

I know someone called Alkida - similar and even closer to what those have commented. It is a very common name in certain parts of the world - Albania for example. It is actually quite pretty and I have never heard anyone say anything negative about her name.

If its a saints name it probably is popular somewhere. But it just doesn't work in an English speaking country in 2026.

Newname26 · 29/09/2026 17:05

Wilsonpicket · 28/09/2026 23:10

Thank you everyone, it's not a wind up post. I visited a church today on my hols with this saints name and I liked it , but clearly a none starter

Op Fair Play.
You've taken on board its no a great name

Alcoholic, terrorist or scout leader / jungle book character. Have your pick? 😂

issyforqueen · 29/09/2026 17:03

Well it makes a change from Wren and Autumn.

I’m a Scout Leader, it made me think of Akela, the Cub Leader!

My first thought too

Mistyglade · 29/09/2026 17:00

Alicia is lovely I think.
