Noa for a girl

Would love to hear some opinions! I absolutely love Noa for a girl. We’re Jewish, and Noa is a known Hebrew girl name but I’m worried that in general, people will assume she’s a boy when they see her name written or hear her name.

@wishingonastar101 , Alex, Nik and Danny are diminutives and the full names will indicate the sex of the child. Jessie is usually short for Jessica.

I know a couple called Chris and Alex and I struggle to remember which one is which.

Very common in Jewish circles, outside of those I think most people would assume boy.

Noa is a lovely name and I know of several. I do live in northwest London though where you are more likely to come across a Noa than a Noah (in 18 years of raising boys I've come across 2).

There are some hilariously mental comments on this board. You do realise that there are lots of names that are for males and females - Sam, Charlie, Alex, Jordan, Billie, Frankie etc. Why would it be a problem? I have one of them and it has caused me 0 issues in life.

There was one in my DS’s preschool class. Lovely name, lovely girl but she was always described as “Girl Noa” by the kids.

In UK Noah is a boys' name . Noa is wonderful but she would have to explain so often.

I really like Noa as a girl's name. I think when people see the name spelt that way they know it's a girl - but maybe that's because I'm Jewish and I'm more familiar with the name.

There's Noami or Naomi as well, although I think with the first spelling people would get it wrong a lot.

Why would it be a problem? I have one of them and it has caused me 0 issues in life.
Is it your name or your child's? Are you or your DC just Sam or are you Samantha or Samuel?

I've been in situations where the person was expecting me to be a man and it wasn't a good experience.

I used to deal with someone solely by email. For years I didn't know if it was a man or woman as the name is unisex and not spelt differently for men and women. I had no reason to ask and didn't need to know, so I didn't ask. She went on maternity leave.

Nope.

Too similar to Noah. I wouldn't choose any girl's name that is close to, or a female version of a boy's name.

Seeing it written down, I would assume girl. If I just heard it I would automatically assume boy.

B'shaa tova!

People will soon discover she's not a boy! But easy for me to say... also Jewish.

The only other consideration is if you want to give her a noticeably Jewish name at the moment. My children have Jewish names, and it's a slight worry.
