Thoughts on twin girls’ names including Anna, Bella, Lola and Ruby

Hi everyone, looking for some takes on baby names, my partner and I are expecting twins and we have a shortlist should they both be girls (we have decided to not know gender).

Our list right now is

Anna and Bella
Anna and Emma
Bella and Lola
or
Lola and Ruby

DH loves Lola and Ruby, I love Bella and Lola

so Lola seems to be the consistent, but we do like Anna and Bella and Anna and Emma.

Middle names will be Elena and Maria (family names).

The only issue is our surname start with B and we are worried Bella B… sounds a bit twee.

Our boys names are Finn and Rory, or Rory and …. If boy and girl.

Thoughts?

Anna is my favourite of your list, and then Elena and Maria.

I quite like Bella and Emma but I'm not sure either goes with Anna.

Anna Maria and Lucy Elena?

Italiangreyhound · 06/09/2026 21:49

preference

Italiangreyhound · 06/09/2026 21:48

Anna and Bella don't like both ending in 'a'
Anna and Emma don't like both ending in 'a'
Bella and Lola don't like both ending in 'a' but Belle and Lola are nice
or
Lola and Ruby are nice too.

My top presence night be Belle and Ruby

Mumofgirls2017 · 06/09/2026 21:45

With Finn and Rory, I’d go Bella and Lola. However, Anna and Emma are my choice. Would also suggest

anna and clara
anna and eva
anna and emily
anna and isabel
anna and grace
anna and sophie
anna and charlotte
anna and olivia

luckylavender · 06/09/2026 21:37

Lola & Ruby

Fakeplasticchimneyswhy · 06/09/2026 21:31

Team DH here! I think Lola Maria and Ruby Elena are lovely. As others have pointed out, Anna & Bella sounds like one person and the other combinations are too similar. I would find it really annoying to have any sibling let alone a twin one with a similar sounding name to mine.

geumsun · 06/09/2026 21:25

Anna, Emma and Lucy - these names will age well.

Bella, Lola and Ruby - these won't age well.

None of them make me think of dogs!! But then I am a cat lady, because cats are better.

Focalpoint · 06/09/2026 21:24

Elena and Maria are lovely names as well. Am biased as I always wanted to use Maria but was overruled in favour of a name on your list!

Gothwife · 06/09/2026 21:18

Anna, Bella, Lola and Ruby sound like a litter of Labrador puppies

Pumpup · 06/09/2026 21:13

Anna is beautiful. Emma was on my list.
I really like Bella but if it doesn’t go with your surname then it’s a no.
Sophie?

Lola is the word for Grandmother in some of Asia and that’s what I always think of when I hear that name.

Norastroud · 06/09/2026 21:03

I really like Emma Maria & Ruby Elena!
I find Emma & Anna a bit similar with the repeated double letter.
best of luck choosing!

Nincompoo · 06/09/2026 19:37

Lola and Ruby for me

Anna and Bella has too many A’s. Anna and Belle, or Annie and Bella are both lovely.

Emma is bland (to my ears)

Ljzjta · 06/09/2026 19:33

I prefer Belle to Bella and would go with Belle and Lola x

user293948849167 · 06/09/2026 19:27

Anna and Bella - don’t go together but Anna is lovely
Anna and Emma - sound too similar again but both lovely names
Bella and Lola - no they sound like a circus act
Lola and Ruby - sound nice together, not so keen on Lola but Ruby is pretty

Bella and Ruby sound better together and have a similar vibe - then it’s one each of your favourite names too!
Bella Maria and Ruby Elena is what I would go
for.
You could go Isabella and call her Bella for short if you’re worried about your surname

I like Finn and Rory

Rory and Ruby works if you don’t mind the alliteration
Finn and Ruby is nicer though

Rory and Anna/Emma also lovely

TrojanDonkey · 06/09/2026 19:03

Anna is lovely.

Bella is just dull and overused. Not only is it every other dog’s name but every Isabella is a Bella or even Arabella.

I like Lola but it’s immensely popular.

Dislike Ruby, about ten years ago it was every girl’s name that I knew.

Other than Anna, they’re just very generic popular girl’s names. If that doesn’t bother you than it doesn’t matter really.

itsgettingweird · 06/09/2026 19:02

Lola and Ruby from your options.

Lola and Belle is better than Bella imo.

Lola and Daisy
Lola and Freya

Rory and Lola if they are different sex.

IwanttoWFH · 06/09/2026 18:49

Lucy, Emma and Anna are lovely.

Bella, Ruby and Lola definitely make me think of dogs.

GirlsInGreen · 06/09/2026 18:44

Anna & Lucia

WhereAreWeNow · 06/09/2026 18:42

I like Ruby and Anna.

Anna and Bella sounds too much like one name (Annabelle) to my ears!

ChocolateCinderToffee · 06/09/2026 18:42

Anna and Emma

The others are, as other people have said, either dog or showgirl names, sometimes both!

sunandpeonies · 06/09/2026 18:40

1st choice Emma and Anna
Then Lola and Emma or
Anna and Lola
I feel Emma and Anna are classics, and Lola is not.
They are all beautiful names.
Hard decision.

OrsolaRosso · 06/09/2026 18:37

I think that Lucy and Ruby are too matchy.
You have some lovely names there, but I would switch up the combinations.

Anna and Lucy
Anna and Lola
Anna and Ruby
Lucy and Bella
Lucy and Emma

whatwouldlilacerullodo · 06/09/2026 18:34

OP, the cruel comments here are what people will think in real life but won't say out loud.

maggisimpson · 06/09/2026 18:32

Lucy is definitely more timeless than Lola.

maggisimpson · 06/09/2026 18:32

Braziebebe · 06/09/2026 18:27

What does everyone think of Lucy and Ruby? Are they too matchy?

I think they're lovely and not too similar.
