Thoughts on twin girls’ names including Anna, Bella, Lola and Ruby

Hi everyone, looking for some takes on baby names, my partner and I are expecting twins and we have a shortlist should they both be girls (we have decided to not know gender).

Our list right now is

Anna and Bella
Anna and Emma
Bella and Lola
or
Lola and Ruby

DH loves Lola and Ruby, I love Bella and Lola

so Lola seems to be the consistent, but we do like Anna and Bella and Anna and Emma.

Middle names will be Elena and Maria (family names).

The only issue is our surname start with B and we are worried Bella B… sounds a bit twee.

Our boys names are Finn and Rory, or Rory and …. If boy and girl.

Thoughts?

Anna, Emma and Lucy are all great names.

Emma doesn’t work well with Elena or Maria as a second name though so I would go for Anna Maria and Lucy Elena.

Anna and Ruby

Wasn’t there a thread recently that names like Lola and Ruby are ‘showgirl’ names?

scoopsahoooy · Yesterday 18:01

I'd go Lucy and Anna, or Anna and Ruby! Because the middle names are already ending in 'a', so otherwise I think it sounds a bit odd having a Lola Maria and a Bella Elaina, or whatever - just doesn't sit right to my ears, especially as it's both of them.

Firebird83 · Yesterday 17:28

Don’t like Lola, Ruby or Bella and agree that they are pets’ names. Anna, Lucy and Emma are nice.

Anna Maria and Lucy Elena?

ToadRage · Yesterday 14:34

My Mum's cat is called Bella so I don't associate it with people. I like Anna and Emma as general names but not sure for twins, i never liked the matching of twins names with length, letter or sound. I like Lola and Ruby but be aware there was thread a little while ago about someone commenting on these as 'showgirl' names. If that doesn't bother you go for it!

Whosthetabbynow · Yesterday 14:27

Lola and Ruby are lovely 💕

Sandrasbigturd · Yesterday 14:22

I like Lola and Ruby. Alternatively Annabelle and Ruby or Isabella and Ruby.

Anna and Bella is a big no because Annabelle is a name in it’s own right so sounds like you’ve given them half a name each

user1492757084 · Yesterday 13:49

Yes, Bella is twee.

My favea from your list ...
Lola Maria and Elena Anna
Rory and Emma Maria
Rory and Finn

Iocanepowder · Yesterday 06:39

Anna Maria and Emma Elena.

Love your middle names!

Sorry I also associate the others with dog names. Also there was a thread on here very recently where op’s friend had commented how Lola and Ruby were ‘showgirl’ names and everyone on the thread said they still associated Lola with Copacabana.

mathanxiety · Yesterday 06:32

I think they're all too rhymey, and I don't like Ruby or Lola ("she was a showgirl")

Lucy and Emma would be great, or Lucy and Anna.
Lucy Elena and Anna Maria.

For B/G twins -
Rory and Emma
Finn and Lucy

Anna, Emma and Lucy - these names will age well.

Bella, Lola and Ruby - these won't age well.

None of them make me think of dogs!! But then I am a cat lady, because cats are better.

Agree, when you said Anna and Lucy I immediately un-tensed. Lola and Bella are just not serious names (hence the dog thing). Isabella, maybe.

Agree with PP about Elena and Maria being great separately, and together.

BCBird · Yesterday 05:43

Lola and Bella seem quite popular name in the secondary schools i have worked in. Anna and Bella- seems like Annabella shared.

Allmydays2 · Yesterday 05:38

Love Anna but not Anna Bella due to it being one name

How about Anna and Cara?

Also is there a reason why the boys names are of Irish origin and the girls not ? Some lovely girl names of irish origin too

Gemstonebeach · Yesterday 05:33

Bella and Ruby would be my preferred pair.

opalfruits76 · Yesterday 05:30

Anna and Lucy
Lucy and Emma
Emma and Lucy

S101426 · Yesterday 04:52

All lovely names! 🫠 I will definitely call my future daughter Bella. So Bella and Lola or Ruby and Lola are my favourite. 🩷🩷 Congratulations!!

LavenderMillie · Yesterday 04:45

As you both love Lola I’d choose

Rory and Lola for boy/girl then

Lola and one of your other names. Personally not keen on Bella. What about Anabel?

Congratulations

Savvysix1984 · 06/09/2026 22:15

They’re all nice names but together Anna and Bella sound weird (Annabella).
I like Anna and Emma. Classy.
There was a thread recently with siblings called some of the other names and was told they sounded like ‘show girl’ names.

cityliving99 · 06/09/2026 22:13

Anna and Bella are gorgeous names.
We have Dixie and Dolly at school and they are beautiful.

I have met waaay too many dogs named Bella for it to register as a human name anymore!

Lola and Ruby for me, or Finn and Ruby.

I know far more dogs called Ruby than Bella 😂🐶

lucky45 · 06/09/2026 22:08

@FrankAbagnalesLies none of these names rhyme

liveforsummer · 06/09/2026 22:04

I have a Lola and no one has ever mistaken her for a Labrador 😆 her sister is Isabella known as Izzie rather than Bella so maybe less dog like (don’t care if not. No one has ever made that connection in16 years) my other options were Callie/Callia/callista or Harriet/Hattie. Ruby is lovely too. Go with what you love as it will grow on everyone else. Congratulations on your twins 👯

AlexandraCarrington · 06/09/2026 21:54

Not Lola, always makes me think stripper/showgirl.

I met her in a club down in old Soho
Where you drink champagne and it tastes just like Coca-Cola
C-O-L-A, Cola....

Italiangreyhound · 06/09/2026 21:52

Daisy and Freya is lovely.
