Page 2 | Clara and Lyra too similar for sisters’ names?

Pregnant with my second baby girl. I already have a Clara, and really love Lyra for this baby. Do you think Clara and Lyra is too much of a tongue twister for siblings? It’s the only thing stopping me!

Thank you! Iris is our top contender for a middle name, but if she was Lyra it would be Primrose as it didn’t flow. Sylvie is actually on our list but we worried it was a bit out there and we aren’t keen on people mistaking her for Slyvia. I love Goldie but my partner said absolutley not 😣 Lots to think about! @AquamarinePearlGold

Yes, Liesel is pretty and both have a Germanic feel so go well together.

What on earth do you mean they sound "nothing alike"?

They both end in a "rah" sound, and it is the endings of words that makes them rhyme. On top of that, the rhyming ending is preceded in both names by a long vowel sound, which itself is preceded by an "L". All that is left to differentiate at that point is the C at the beginning of Clara.

Lara and Lyra are almost identical! It's the minimal difference between a long a and a long y as a vowel. It is hard to think of two names that sound more similar, without actually being the same name, which, I will grant, they are not - at least not quite.

I don’t think they are too similar, and also even if they are - not sure that would stop me if I loved a particular name that much.

We love Leila! We have reservations around whether it compliments Clara as a sibling pair because Clara is traditional and Leila slightly more modern. A beautiful name though and definitely on our list. Thank you! @Ineffable23

Leila is an older name than Clara I think, it's been used for centuries in the Middle East.
According to google first popularised in Europe by Bryon in the 19th century.

Lyra on the other hand wasn't really used as a name until Philip Pullman/His Dark Materials, so relatively modern.

I like both names and i think in real life you could get away with Lyra.
