Thoughts on the name Agatha, middle name Jean, with a double-barrelled surname? I really like Agatha, and we’d probably use Aggie as a nickname. I know it’s quite a divisive name, so interested to hear what people think… One thing I’m unsure about is whether people associate “Aggie/aggy” with “aggressive” or being irritable? I’m not from the UK so I’m not sure if this is actually a thing people would notice? Would love honest thoughts.

I don’t like it but, of course, it is up to you.

Just make sure you like Agatha as much as Aggie. My 15 year old DD has refused to be called anything other than the full version of her name since she was 4. She would solemnly remind anyone who used a shorter version ‘my name is X’. Totally up to her.

My kids say “don’t be Aggie”.
I have heard of Taggie for the shortened version.

No I don’t like it sounds harsh. Aggie is not a nickname it’s a diminutive. I knew an Agnes known as Aggie , she wasn’t very nice so it does put me off.

I don't mind it but I much prefer Agnes, which I love. I also love Maude, which most people seem to hate.

Oh fgs people are going way OTT ! .
Agatha is not hideous, it’s the shortening to Aggie that I personally wouldn’t be gone on .
You’re going to get ( like with everything ),people who will love & hate it .

No it really is hideous. Ag is such a horrid sound. It’s a stereotypically ugly name hence why the Trunchbull in Matilda was given it. There are plenty of names that aren’t “boring, that doesn’t mean it’s advisable to inflict them upon a child, said as someone who often does like “unusual” names, Besides it’s the child who is supposed to have a personality not their name.

These are the types of comments you will hear on MN which is why I never take any notice of peoples options on baby names.

personally as a mum of an Agnes/Aggie I love it. I also met a little Agatha last year.

I think both names are beautiful and timeless.

I’m team love it! Vintage names are coming flu circle here and as I’m sure had been mentioned Agatha is the name of a mich loved character in Rivals so it’s been pulled into the spotlight favourably at the moment xx
