Ha, ha - you just wait! That’s the thing about fashion. People can’t imagine that the current ‘trendy’ names might soon become dated. Parents of Sharon, Karen & Gary thought the same.

Where I live every one of these is either a teenager at DS 2's school or my dog's friends. Sometimes both.

I don't think timeless classics ever have or ever will date anyone. Such as Charlotte, Elizabeth, Catherine etc. And for boys Charles, Patrick or James for example. It's the names associated with a particular era or celebrities that will look old or even tacky in years to come. As indeed they always have.

This is true. If you want a timeless name than you can't do better than go Biblical or Royal. So if you can imagine the name on a king or queen or it's anywhere in the New Testament - you're good.

Can't tell. depends on things we won't be able to foresee. Like Myra, or any name associated with certain individuals. And Karen/Debbie/Jessica were once popular, before they became mean stereotypes. Or Fanny.

I don’t think the mean stereotypes are what dates a name though. Karen and Debbie are mainly going to be in their 50s and 60s, along with Tracey, Sharon and Julie.

I have no idea why these names were so popular for a 60s baby but would be unusual for a child born in the 80s or later.

Boys it’s the Old Testament names that have surged in popularity - Elijah, Jude, Noah, Ezra. Luka and cooper (those names are awful sorry!) Dexter is terrible too.

The boys used to be called the New Testament names: Peter, Paul, Andrew, Simon, Mark, John - but they seem to have faded.

Yes to add the elderly ladies: Ivy, Daisy, Maisie, Ruby.

I think Catherine is getting a bit dated. Looking at the stats it was 68 in the charts thirty years ago but doesn’t even make the top 500 now. I definitely know lots of Kate/Katies and Cath/Cathys in the 30+ age range but no little ones.

I think the majority of the "normal" names would not date, there will always be children called William, Tom, Anna, Elizabeth, Oliver, James etc.

Definitely Arlo, it’s gone from almost nonexistent to top 15 in the last 10 years. The epitome of the Gen Alpha name.
Also Noah, Edith, Reuben, Maeve, Ivy.

@merryhouse I know a 2 year old Elizabeth! It was number 74 last year.

Charlotte was a bit old-fashioned to my teenage ears (we were all called Julie Helen Mandy Paula Lisa Susan Rachel Lorraine Donna Tracey Joanne Christine Sharon). Rather like Emily 🙃
Charles was not so much dated as considered a bit pretentious - like Geoffrey
