Vaughn or Vaughan?
which spelling would you go for. Naturally I write ‘Vaughn’ but my partner thinks it’s too American and should be ‘Vaughan’

for reference / this is sibling for Fraser.

@Any1ForTennis , The spelling of the Welsh surname is Vaughan. The pp was right in that it does mean 'Little'. The Gaelic equivalent is Buchan, which is not dissimilar to the Welsh Fychan (from bychan, 'little').

I have relatives with this name who spell it Vaughan, so that's my vote.

Dontknowwhocanhelp · 30/08/2026 01:20

I’ve only ever seen it spelt Vaughan and as a surname personally.

Any1ForTennis · 30/08/2026 00:39

Presume its Vaughn the Welsh word for small/little rhymes with yawn?

If so, i would spell it properly otherwise it will be pronounced "vo-gan" won't it?

I would be with your DH with Vaughan. I am in Ireland and Vaughan is a surname.

Only even seen it spelled Vaughan, so I’m with your DH.
