Wondered if anyone knew anyone with these names and what they think of them

Sorrel, Elowen, Manon (pronounced Welsh way.

Two syllable surname.

Also what goes well as a middle name. Family names don’t really suit and have been used apart from Mai (pronounced My)

Sorrel will always be Sorren
Manon eugh if you must

Keymoment · 28/08/2026 22:13

I know a Sorrel - probably in her late 30s now. I know two Elowens - both are babies or toddlers. I do know a Manon but she’s French.

Excellentsausages · 28/08/2026 22:07

Manon reminds me of Jean de Florette/Manon des sources, such a sad story. Not a fan of the name.

Either of the other two are nice - i think my vote would go for Sorrel.

Brainstorm23 · 28/08/2026 22:06

Sorrel is the colour of a horse. Not sure about Manon.

AelinoftheWildfire · 28/08/2026 22:00

I'm hoping these are Throne of Glass inspired otherwise my suggestion of Asterin is going to seem off 🤣
Personally of the two I'd say Manon, but only if it's pronounced correctly

Diversion · 28/08/2026 21:58

Sorrel. Manon makes me think of the film The Craft, which I love but which might not be what you want (beyond good and evil).

@MyManinCaracas when I was a child I read a book with a pig in it called Sorrel - it had a wolf in an ice cream van who tried to eat them? Maybe you read it too! I can’t remember what it was called but that’s the only time I have heard the name Sorrel and I too always think of a pig!

I also had a book with a family of pigs, including a Sorrel! I don't remember a wolf in an ice cream van though 😁 I think there were some shenanigans with lots of younger little piglet siblings

Mami2Cymraeg · 28/08/2026 21:57

I live in Wales, and know quite a few girls/ women called Manon. I like Manon Elin or Manon Lois.

@Alwayschillyatnight the Craft?

Yes!
Thank you. My brain is mush atm.
That's what Manon makes me think of

AnnaQuayRules · 28/08/2026 21:52

I know a lovely Sorrel. She really suits her name. She has sisters called Honey and Gala.

Myfridgeiscool · 28/08/2026 21:52

I love the name Manon: I knew one and she was absolutely lovely, she was very chic and stylish. Gets my vote OP!

HudALledrith · 28/08/2026 21:52

I don't like Seren. It's just 'Star'. The Welsh pronunciation is fine but it will get said as 'Serrun' or 'Serrun, it's Welsh for star'.

poundshopkardashians · 28/08/2026 21:51

@Alwayschillyatnight the Craft?

Copperoliverbear · 28/08/2026 21:46

Sorrel

Alwayschillyatnight · 28/08/2026 21:45

Manon makes me think of that 90s film about witches with Fairuza Balk in it. Might be showing my age there.
Wtf was it called again?

Photobot · 28/08/2026 21:43

Elowen is Cornish (she was a princess of West Cornwall). All three are lovely, I still wish I'd gone for Sorrel for DD2.

DallasMajor · 28/08/2026 21:20

Man on is a constant shout from the football field/school yard

Girls football still shout Man On.

Just think it is something to be aware of.

I love Sorrel

DrWhosJazzyScarf · 28/08/2026 21:17

Love both, but Manon in particular.

PancakeCloud · 28/08/2026 21:12

I love Manon. Elowen second fave.

newrubylane · 28/08/2026 21:09

I love Manon.

Anjelika · 28/08/2026 21:07

I love the name Manon. I know a Manon and although her name was chosen for the Welsh connection, none of her relatives pronounce it in the Welsh ways suggested above. The other Welsh name I like is Seren,

ToadRage · 28/08/2026 21:01

I don't like Sorrel, sounds too much like Laurel which i also don't like. I think Elowen is too Lord of the Rings, too close to Eowyn and may often be mistaken for. I like Manon, first heard it in French novel Jean De Florette, wasn't aware it was Welsh.

emptygoosenest · 28/08/2026 20:58

They do sound Lord of Rings, I like that others won't.
