Help with uncommon boy names before he arrives ๐Ÿ™ˆ

Hi everyone

Im having a boy and weโ€™re running out of time now because im due really soon and we still havent agreed on a name

I like names that are a bit more uncommon but not so unusual that nobody knows how to say them if that makes sense

My partner is Syrian and im British so weโ€™re trying to find something that works for both of us and thats proving harder than I thought. We both want a name that people here can say but that feels right for his side aswell

I feel like every name one of us likes the other one doesnt ๐Ÿ˜‚

I dont really want anything thats in the top 10 because where we live there always seems to be loads of children with the same names, but I also dont want people constantly asking how to pronounce it

I quite like shorter names but im open to anything really at this point

Please throw your ideas at me because ive looked through so many lists and nothing is jumping out

Im probably being too fussy but this is one of those things you cant really change your mind about later so I want to get it right

Just be mindful that any name you think is uncommon is probably about to hit the top ten. It seems like parents-to-be subconsciously pick up on names that are just coming up and think they're uncommon, only to find that when their child gets to nursery there are one or more other children in the class with the same name. This happened to a couple of friends of mine.

I don't think it matters personally. Hope you get some inspiration for a name that's perfect!

Is your friend a soft toy?

Ha ha very good.

My muslin friend married to a Christian went for Aron as a pan-abrahamic name.

How are you pronouncing Elias? Ell-ee-us or El-eye-as?

OhFucko · 20/08/2026 21:09

Caspar.

Definite Middle East connotations, also been used in England, uncommon but not odd.

Whatever you choose, congratulations!

Tarlach (Tarlack)
Itโ€™s an Irish name, I think itโ€™s great and I donโ€™t believe in cultural appropriation

Having a short list rather than a definite is a good idea. I was convinced my second was going to be Samuel. My second thought on holding him for the first time was โ€˜oh, youโ€™re definitely not Samuel!โ€™

Thank you, ive genuinely got loads more names on my list now than I did this morning ๐Ÿ˜‚

I do like Rami, Samir, Zaki and Omar

Luca is really nice aswell but one of my friends has a little boy called Luca so I dont think id use it

Leon is another one I quite like, id somehow forgotten about that one

Atlas keeps getting suggested but I dont think its really us if im honest

Noah is lovely but theres so many little Noahs where we are now

I dont think ill be inventing a name ๐Ÿ˜‚ I want something thats a real name, just not one you hear 5 times every time you go to soft play

My partner likes names that are recognised in both places aswell so weโ€™re trying to find that middle ground

I honestly didnt expect picking a boys name to be this hard. With my other children I felt like I knew much earlier but this time every name seems to have something that puts one of us off it
