Classic baby girl names to go with Rosa, not too popular

Due baby girl #2 in the next few weeks and we can't settle on a name. With our daughter, we always had a name in mind so this is new territory! Big sister is Rosa. I'd describe our style as quite classic while not wanting something super popular, although I am more concerned about the name's popularity than partner is. We'd prefer a name that doesn't end in "a".

Any preferences from our current shortlist, or names that we've missed and should consider?

Names we have shortlisted:
Evelyn (nn Evie) - my partner's current favourite
Mabel - my current favourite
Hazel
Harriet
Annabel
Zoe

Names that one of us has vetoed:
Isabel/Isabella
Maeve
Florence
Constance
Anya
Nina
Clara
Madeleine
Meredith
Margot
Jasmine

Congratulations. Sometimes the baby looks more like one name than another. I like all your suggestions except Harriet, which I find awkward to say, Grace, because it’s difficult if they aren’t graceful, and Hazel, because I knew a horrid Hazel. I like Nina, Dorcas, and Eliza. I love Felicity. Which names work best with your surname?

Bunnyofhope · 05/08/2026 23:19

Congratulations!
I suggest Maria, Anna, Sophia, Julia or Louisa

Congrats! I have a Juliet, middle name Rosa, so my suggestion is also Juliet. Well known name but surprisingly unusual these days based on the baby name statistics. Zoe was on my list too but I am not sure it flows so well with Rosa.

NamingNoNames · 05/08/2026 19:49

Congratulations! 👶

BeaLola · 05/08/2026 19:48

From your list:
Evelyn (nn Evie) - my partner's current favourite - How about Eve on its own

Harriet - love
Zoe - like a lot

Names that one of us has vetoed:

Nina - love

Margot - really like

also maybe consider Eliza, Eleanor, Grace, Louisa

SouthLondonMum22 · 05/08/2026 19:44

I think Hazel, Evelyn/Evie and Mabel may be too popular for your liking? Mabel is a top 20 name now.

Suggestions with Rosa -

Audrey
Betsy
Cleo
Daphne
Edith
Felicity
Heidi
Maggie
Marnie
Naomi
Nellie
Sylvie

Thank you everyone for the thoughtful responses! There are a couple of names suggested, in particular, that we like but which we couldn't use because we have very close friends/family with little ones by the same name (Florence and Margot, for instance).

Anyway, lots of food for thought here... Which is handy because baby girl arrived today 💕I'll update this thread with what we land on for anyone interested.

Huge congratulations to you all. What wonderful news. I bet Rosa is delighted with her new little baby sister. Congrats again.

There are three Evelyn or derivatives of in my DC class.

Out of your shortlist Annabel is my preferred.

How about Willow - follows the nature theme without being to obviously flowery?

Fitsunshine · 04/08/2026 23:47

Hazel is nice.
But Rosa and Phoebe would be lovely!

User6761 · 04/08/2026 23:36

My first thought from reading your title was Evelyn!

Other ideas,
Rosa and...
Seren
Eleanor
Beatrice
Heather
Ingrid
Juniper
Ottilie
Astrid
Coral
Amber
Annie

LilyLemonade · 04/08/2026 23:30

I think Annabel goes best from your list.

What about
Catherine
Carmen
Louise
Mirabel

RowsOfFlowers · 04/08/2026 23:28

Celeste, Celine, Winnie, Emmeline, Marianne, Laila, Esme, Violet, Elise.

NamingNoNames · 04/08/2026 23:19

In order:
Harriet - like a lot
Zoe - like
Hazel - ok
Annabel - prefer Anna
Evelyn (nn Evie) - I don't like Evelyn, Evie too overused
Mabel - I don't like Mabel

Becuriousnotjudgemental1980 · 04/08/2026 22:45

Eliza, Cora, violet, Eloise, Nancy.

Ouiouimerci · 04/08/2026 22:38

Another option would be Lucia? Rosa and Lucia sound lovely together and you could call Lucia, Lulu as a nn to avoid the “a” ending in day to day.

blushroses6 · 04/08/2026 22:37

I love Zoe. Other names I love that I think go with Rosa: Elise, Emilia, Isabelle, Iris, Beatrice, Florence, Genevieve.
