Axel or Justin?

Do you prefer Axel or Justin? I've gotten some faces when I've mentioned either as potential names we're considering (which has caused a bit of doubt).

2 truly appalling names.

And I say that as someone with a cousin called Axel.

@ImpatientlyWaitingForSummer is it on Prime or some other streaming platform as I cannot find it on Netflix . Thanks ☺️

I don’t know how many times I’ve seen it 😂 if you haven’t already, I thoroughly recommend Parks and Recreation - very very similar show imo with a similar sense of humour

Thank you, will definitely look it up. Even my 10 and 13 year old are now interested in the middle 😂
I really love shows like this, Young Sheldon, Two and a half men, Malcolm in the middle (haven’t seen that in ages).

PolkaDotPorridge · 30/07/2026 12:54

Voted Justin because there wasn’t a neither vote. Rethink OP, both names are dreadful!

notnorman · 30/07/2026 12:44

I was next to a toddler Axel recently, on holiday. Axel was quite inquisitive, messing in people’s bags and trying to grab their phones. Mum spent 30 mins saying ‘Axel don’t do that!’ ‘Axel come here!’

Honestly the name sounded so silly

Absolutely love Brick 😂 thought the last episode was so good and very emotional! If you haven’t already seen it I recommend Parks and Recreation, really similar sense of humour to the Middle and a lot of similarities!

@ImpatientlyWaitingForSummeri haven’t watched P&R but I will on your recommendation!!

yonem · 30/07/2026 12:03

Justin is ok, maybe a bit wet but basically fine.
I don’t like Axel. There’s something about naming your child after a car part that screams toxic masculinity, which the Rudakubana association doesn’t exactly help with.

Me too @ImpatientlyWaitingForSummer- I was really sad when it finished (watched recently so a bit of a late adopter). I could see some of my son in Brick 😂

Axel if you are in the US not UK
I think it's cute enough (but I used to love The Middle) but now it's like Myra for me, and I will always think of Southport same as with Myra, my mind goes straight away to the moors.

Justin again would fly more in the States (Timberlake, Bieber) rather than here. Here we just make puerile knob gags out of it.

In the UK I'd prefer Alex or Josh but that's me.
Your baby, your pick x

Tablesandchairs23 · 30/07/2026 10:54

Both are awful. Axel is ridiculous and justin is old fashioned

I really dislike the name Justin (inexplicably!) so I’d have to go axel. For similar vibe you could try:
Levi
Flynn
jaxon
zane

xOlive · 30/07/2026 10:36

I like Axel, I’ve only ever met one and he was a great lad, really kind and funny.

I don’t know how you could like both Axel and Justin though, I’d love to know your taste in music 😂 it must be so diverse!

Not a fan of Justin, very… meh, plain, old.

Ihaveoflate · 30/07/2026 10:36

I think this post might be a wind up but just in case it's real...

Those names are dire. Axel is giving ageing rocker and Justin sends my mind straight to Mr Tumble. They're both very dated and not in a good way.

Lentilcakes · 30/07/2026 10:35

Do you watch The Middle wrt Axel? If not, you should 😂
I don’t like Justin (just in time, ‘just in’) - just no 😂

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 30/07/2026 10:34

Don't do it if your surname is Grease.

makemineadecaf · 30/07/2026 10:33

Axel is awful.

I think it’s usually Tristram when used with the ‘m’

Come again?
it looks and indeed sounds like a typo

Justin preferred over Axel but I don’t mind Axel

Not very often I comment on proposed baby names, but these two are dreadful, almost to the point that I can smell a windup.

Why would what someone else, especially a stranger on the internet, is considering naming their child wind anyone up, though? I’ve never once read any of these name threads and had that strong of a reaction to it.

Justin is a McCarthy name.
