Sister for Lyra?

LyrasMama · 28/07/2026 15:15

I’m expecting a second girl later in the year, I already have a Lyra who will be nearly 3. Finding it hard to think of a name that matches well with Lyra. Lyra is from the constellation but also obviously there’s a famous book character so pairs like Lyra and Matilda for example sound a bit weird like we’ve raided the library.

  • Can’t be too long (or should have a shorter nickname), she’ll have a double barrelled surname the poor lamb
  • Can’t begin with L
  • Not a fan of names like Willow and Rowan (for my child, love them on others)

Names I like but don’t think are the one - Marianne (but probably too long), Rosa, Cleo (but the car…), Claudia, Juno, Eliza (sounds too similar).

Thoughts on these and especially other suggestions welcome. I tried a baby names app and it suggested Velvet and Fanny so not much help…

I like Lyra and Sibyl too!

I also like Lyra and Vita.

They all have a joyful but serene sort of energy and vibe to them.

I know 2 Lyra's

1 has sisters called Saffron and Kitty (i think short for Katherine) and 1 has a sister called Josie (Josephine)

I love Juno though, unclear why you’ve ruled in out. I’d avoid another name ending with an ‘ah’ syllable.

If it helps we've just welcomed a little Cleo and have had nothing but compliments on her name. Noone has mentioned the car association to our faces. We've been asked if she's named for the Greek Muse or the Egyptian Queen 🥰

Some fab suggestions on here though OP. Have fun choosing and hope you have a wonderful time with your two little ones xx

@LyrasMama Lyra sounds faintly musical to me - so how about Viola?

Lyra and Juno or Lyra and Cleo are lovely together!

mamaduckbone · 29/07/2026 15:12

Rosa and Cleo are my favourites from your selection. How about Bethany? Eve? (Was super popular a few years ago but seem to be less around again now) Abbie?

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 29/07/2026 11:53

Juliet, Hazel, Stephanie, Emily, Mabel….

StormGazing · 29/07/2026 11:40

Do you want to stick with constellations as there are a few that may work:
lynx
Pavo
Phoenix
pyxis
Vela

there are also plenty of moons with beautiful names
Elara
phoebe
Ariel
Leda
portia

stars
solely
chara
Tara
Aster
Nova

Or yes, like Allegra you could keep the musical theme, with Carmen, Aida etc

Palomiino · 29/07/2026 11:29

Allegra

ThestoriesIcouldtellyou · 29/07/2026 11:27

Estelle is very clever. Then you have a constellation and a star. Plus it's a very pretty and unusual name despite being short.

ThestoriesIcouldtellyou · 29/07/2026 11:26

I'd keep it in the Greek vein too. Calliope? Athena? Helen? Or if you want to keep it close to the Orpheus story, Eurydice.

Lyra and
Estelle
Stella
Cosima
Dawn
Ellen
Sabine
Polly

Calliopespa · 29/07/2026 11:15

I think Lyra has a bit of lyricism in it - and not just because of the first four letters!

It is sort of fluid and gentle and I am not so sure as others that it sits well with harsher, strong names like Juno, Hera, Stella, which are all a bit more war-maiden-ish somehow.

LivingTheDreamish · 29/07/2026 02:32

Juno is nice.

Cassia?
