Is Eliahna trendy and overused?

What the OP said is hardly rude by MN standards. I’ve seen names be called chavvy, low class, and downmarket by the “you must only use classic names” mob. That form of blatant classism and harshness is almost always ignored, though.

So why is it spelled differently? What purpose does the "h" serve? If it's just stylistic, it doesn't look good on the name written out or typed and only serves to cause confusion for no benefit. At least with other extraneous letters, like the "lle" endings commonly added to Isabel and Annabel, it can be argued that they make the name look prettier (though I would disagree).

You would constantly get people spelling it incorrectly, and Ellie is not 'basic.' Bit rude. Ellie is a lovely name. Better than Eliahna!

You asked. As a teacher, I have encountered many, many names. Including a student, I’m not making this up, who was named “Nausia” pronounced exactly as you’d imagine. I find “Eliahna” pretentious and difficult. Overused? Not where I am. Never heard of it. But I Googled it and it’s a thing. Is it pronounced “Eliana”? We named our daughter “Phoebe” a very traditional name that some people still struggled with. We thought they might. So, her middle name is Elizabeth after my two best friends. One who calls herself Beth and the other who is called Liz. Just in case Phoebe hated her name. She never has. It’s simply who she is.
BUT it’s your child, so you know best. But don’t be surprised if people mispronounce her name or spell it incorrectly.

How about Elle, or Elli, short for the old-fashioned Eleanor with the traditional spelling?

Baby swim teacher here, only come across 1 girl with this name in 14 years, and certainly not spelt with an H!

Spelling a name a certain unexpected way will land your daughter with spelling her name out every time someone needs to write it. An utter pain, you are landing her with an issue for what? Zero gain it's still a generic common name.

I’ve only seen it spelt Elliana or I guess it could be Eliana, but I’ve never seen it with an ‘h’. I don’t know anyone called that, it sounds quite American to me because they tend to just randomly add Ana onto the end of other names. There was a child on Dance Moms named Elliana.

Even with the Eliahna spelling, I like the name. We’re going to have to get used to (or at least tolerant of) uncommon spellings, pronunciations, and even names that we’ve never heard before. We’re witnessing a societal shift. Most parents are becoming more open to choosing from a wider variety of names, so there’s going to be many children with names that aren’t familiar to many of us in the next few years. These might be our children’s classmates, grandchildren, nieces/nephews, pupils, etc.

Think about how many names were considered truly weird or awful until they became popular and widely used. As soon as something becomes popular or common, it suddenly becomes liked by people who previously disliked it. I’ve never understood that. I guess it’s a bit of a herd mentality.

I know an Eliana which is spelt Eliyanah but pronounced Eli-yar-nah

Lose the H though. I’ve not known it pronounced Eli-Anna. The one I know is Eli-ah-na. I wouldn’t make the connection the pp has said either! So don’t let that put you off. It’s a lovely name.

I’ve taught girls with both pronunciations. Never one with the ‘h’ though. Don’t bother with that OP.

It’s not really straightforward though because you don’t read each letter individually, your eye scans the shape of the word and automatically ‘corrects’ it to Elihana because you don’t see ‘hn’ in English words, so I automatically read it as ‘Eli-ha-nar’ then I had to look closer and sound it out, the ‘h’ is that position is what will cause a lifetime of problems for any poor child saddled with this name.
