Due soon, really can’t decide on a name for our little boy.
this is our current shortlist (in no particular order)
Miles, Tristan, Cameron, Connor, Scott, Harrison, James

Please give your honest thoughts on which you love / hate?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Hopefulsalmon · 25/07/2026 07:16

James is the best and Cameron is also good.

Iknowthatfeeling · 25/07/2026 07:15

Scott and Cameron. Scott cannot be shortened and was a popular name in the 90s, isn't out there and a more traditional name people will have heard of and can spell.
Cameron is also in the more traditional bracket and the only difference is, it can be shortened so make sure your happy with the nicknames associated with that name. It's not fair on a child if you will only let them be known by the full length version of their name because you hate the nicknames.

Saying that I have a very out there name (for the decade I was born anyway) that couldn't be shortened and people still shorten it to a sound (and I hate it) think Alex to Al type thing.

I really like Tristan and was on my list for DS but everyone else seems to dislike it.

Which name is at the top of your list OP?

OneNewLeader · 25/07/2026 07:14

Not keen on Harrison. The others , great.

I need to know what zoo animal. All I’m getting is giraffe, Zebra and Chimpanzee

I thought Elephant had a certain ring to it.

All are fine - good

Miles, Tristan, Cameron, Scot would be my favorites

Love Tristan- dated 2 of them both superbly nice men.

I personally hate Harrison its popular thoug. I feel its a surname but there are a million more dumb/idiotic names out there and totally fine as a name.
Connor is also a surname imo but I'm irish.

Pick something you love.

My child has a classic and widely considered highly beautiful Irish name and I was told by the headteacher it was awkward to spell and what name to lumber my child with (im paraphrasing)
In the same breath she was gushing over how lovely the name was of a child named after a ZOO ANIMAL....
🧐😵‍💫🤯

People have different tastes.

I picked it because I loved it not because it was phonetic.
Clearly the parents of zoo animal had similar feelings.... 😅

IMO only,
Harrison would be most modern and suited to a baby born now i think.Harry for short is cute.
Can't imagine Scott suiting a baby, seems such an adult name.
James i think is dated as a first namebut works well.as a middle name (our little boy has that- works well as a middle name with the one syllable)
Cameron is nice and Miles is okay, if abit plain sounding.
Don't like Tristian or Connor..

Love James and Cameron
Hate Scott and Tristan
the others are ok

TheSandgroper · 25/07/2026 07:05

Ooh, Scott. I know a few Scott’s. Now you’re talking my era. 😁

Everleigh13 · 25/07/2026 07:05

I like James, Connor and Scott the best.

WizdomE · 25/07/2026 07:03

i would always go for timeless names, not the fashion of the day. James seems gr8. However my mum always picked names that could not be shortened or changed , (ie James becomes Jim or Jimmy).

she chose Mark for my brother as it can’t be changed.

timoteigirl · 25/07/2026 06:55

The only ones I don't like are miles and Cameron. Doesn't Cameron have some unflattering meaning? I like Tristan best. The others are sort of harmless safe names.

AustenitesUnite · 25/07/2026 06:46

James would be top of my list

I also like Miles, Cameron & Tristan but am not keen on the other names

Mumofgirls2017 · 25/07/2026 06:42

James is my favourite by a mile. I find Scott, Connor and Cameron a bit dated; and just not been a fan of the others (though they are fine names)

Maybeitllneverhappen · 25/07/2026 06:38

I like Cameron and James best. Miles and Tristan are a bit twee for me. Just don't like Scott and Connor - don't know why! I was a teacher for a long time and Harrisons are always badly behaved in my experience!

Lumpycat · 25/07/2026 06:09

Nice list. All good. Have always loved Tristan and Scott. Which one flows the best with your surname?
How many syllables in surname?

purplepuffa · 25/07/2026 06:09

Not keen on Tristan, I don't know why, maybe it sounds a bit try-too-hard.

The others are all fine, James is the nicest.

wandawaves · 25/07/2026 06:09

They're all nice.
Except Scott, which feels a bit dated to me.

SleepQuest33 · 25/07/2026 06:09

I like Miles, Cameron and Harrison

i don’t really like Tristan

Supersleepysheepy · 25/07/2026 06:08

James is lovely, would prefer Harry to Harrison.

PersephoneParlormaid · 25/07/2026 06:07

I like Miles/Myles, Tristan, Scott and Harrison.

MinnieCoops · 25/07/2026 06:07

I like James and Cameron. Harrison and Connor aren’t nice imo

user1492757084 · 25/07/2026 06:06
