Thoughts on Cecelia with non Cece, and ideas for a full name for Gigi

What do people think of this? nickname cece or is it too old fashioned? we will call her Cece but will of course get cecelia at school ect.

For reference we have a Rafferty nn Raffy so like slightly different but not unheard of names.

I also love Gigi but can’t find a ‘full’ name I like!!

At least spell it Cecilia.

StormGazing · 25/07/2026 06:26

My friend Cecilia is often shortened to Cecil or Seals.
Gigi is nice too and I’d probably chose Genivieve for a konger version
there’s also Vivi short for Vivica

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 25/07/2026 06:16

Cece and Gigi could easily be nn for girls with those initials eg Celia Clare or Georgina Grace.

Both ideas are lovely for ..
Any C C names like
Cosima Claire
Celia Christobel
Cicely Catherine
Any G G names like
Grace Giselle
Georgia Gwen
Georgina Gretal

ginevra
genevieve
gianna
georgia
georgina
regina
imogen?

Snorlaxo · 23/07/2026 16:25

Have you considered making her initials CC or GG so you can call her CeeCee or GeeGee?

Hadalifeonce · 23/07/2026 16:25

Just wondering you are trying to find a long name for shorter name you like?
Why not just call her the shortened version you like?

newtb · 23/07/2026 16:21

I know a Giselle that was called Gigi when she was little

Firebird83 · 23/07/2026 16:17

What about Celia “Cece”? I met a little 3 year old Celia the other day.

Daffodilsinthespring · 23/07/2026 16:13

Cecelia is lovely.

Gigi can be short for Georgina

Agapornis · 23/07/2026 15:51

Fyi Cecelia with a E would be pronounced across most European languages as 'seh seh lee ah', rather than 'seh see lee ah'. They would also pronounce Cece as seh seh. Bit of an arse if she decides to study/live abroad. Maybe Celia would be the way?

Gigi - could be Giovanna, common Italian nickname. But don't choose it if you're not Italian.

Runsaway · 23/07/2026 15:49

Cece is fine as a short form for Cecilia (the standard spelling), but I do think Cecilia is a bit of a mouthful. I prefer Cecily, Cicely and Celia.

I know a French Ghislaine, who goes by Gigi.

You can’t call a child Ghislaine now.

SharkEatsDonkeyTails · 23/07/2026 14:27

I love Cecilia and Cece, Gigi equally nice!

Oftenaddled · 23/07/2026 14:12

I love Gianna for Gigi. Traditionally I think it was a short for Josephine in France, but you you have lots of options

Pistachiocake · 23/07/2026 14:09

Has this name got more popular recently? Heard a few people picking it. The only caution I'd give (being friends with a Ruby!) is whether people singing the song would bother you. Probably won't be an issue when she starts school.

My Gigi (one of her many nicknames!) is Georgiana.

tigerlilt · 23/07/2026 14:02

how is Cecily pronounced?

Like the island Sicily but with an eh sound after S instead of an ih sound

MaggieBsBoat · 23/07/2026 14:03

Gigi just reminds me of that notorious movie about prostitution. I just see it as a tragic ‘hooker‘ name.

Cecilia please! For her sake, not Cecelia. That looks awful.

AtTheGym · 23/07/2026 14:03

I know a woman who goes by Gigi. She is called Gabriella, with middle name Grace, but has been known as Gigi from birth.

tigerlilt · 23/07/2026 14:02

how is Cecily pronounced?

Like Cecil-ee. I have met a couple

waltrs55 · 23/07/2026 14:02

I like Cece. What about Tallulah - Lulu

tigerlilt · 23/07/2026 14:02

waltrs55 · 23/07/2026 14:01

Cecelia is nice but more commonly spelt as Cecilia I think. Personally I prefer Cecily or even Cecile.

Gigi could be short for…

Georgina or Georgia
Ginevra
Giovanna or Gianna
Gia or Giada
Genevieve
Angelina
Eugenie

Or anything starting with G like Gaia, Greta, Grace, Guinevere
