I’ve heard this name recently, and it is growing on me. Can I have some thoughts on Romilly for a girl? Any positive or negative opinions please!

Amelie, Emily, Romilly, Ottilie all have a different vibe.

Never heard of it until now. Had to check the pronounciation. I thought it sounded like a boy´s name. I actually like it, funnily enough.

Emily is a very common name where we live so it feels like a spin on that so I wouldn’t go for it for this reason. (Not that I dislike common names, more I find the slight variation on them a bit try hard).

That being said the popularity of Emily is a very local thing, reading statistics, so if I lived somewhere else I might consider Romilly, it’s pretty and I like the shortening to Romy.

I like it. Romi or Romy are nice shortenings. Don’t shorten it to Milly.

It's definitely a girls name but I do think historically it was seen as a male given name and a surname

Yes, this is my primary mental association with the name. Never heard of another, male or female. I don't like it as a girl's name.

I don’t like it. Too much like Rommel. I prefer Romy short for Rosemary or Rosamund.

I don't think it's 'posh'. It's a surname. Probably used as a long version of Romy so she can have 'options'.

I think it’s a “try hard to sound posh” name. That’s what immediately comes to my mind with Romilly. Just not very pretty.

I'd say the first bit of that (Rom-il) more or less the same as Rommel, so yes, maybe that's part of it.

I wouldn't say Rom -MILLIE if that's what you mean?

I find it so interesting that so many people make this connection tbh. My DH included in that! I think they sound completely different personally. I have always wondered why the name isn't more popular but I guess this is one of the reasons. That and the fact it is a place name in Stockport (which I didn't know until finding that out on here)

It always makes me think of Erwin Rommel which is why I struggle to see the appeal.

But it isn''t a weird or made-up name.
