Is Sunday a bad girl name?

I know Sunday is an odd name and I know it’s been gaining a bit more popularity over the past year but I really like the name Sunday especially with just the meaning of like a Sunday morning kind of beauty and the nickname Sunny. I’m not too sure I’m on the fence with it due to how some people would react to naming my daughter after a day of the week?? opinions?

OP posts:

I once worked with a Nigerian fella called Sunday.

Now I have 7 Days by Craig David ear-worming in my ear…

I met this girl on Monday
Took her for a drink on Tuesday
We were making love by Wednesday
And on Thursday and Friday and Saturday
We chilled on Sunday

OriginalSkang · 02/07/2026 16:26

Easy like Sunday morning?

Bunnyofhope · 02/07/2026 16:23

I love it, but to me it is very African. Religious Nigerians. Sunday, Hope, Blessings....

Phineyj · 02/07/2026 16:22

Yes.

WhatNextImScared · 02/07/2026 16:21

I know a little toddler Sunday and it’s a cute name, but probably a bit out there for me. I went for more traditional names

Floofle · 02/07/2026 16:17

The only Sunday I've known was a 50-year old Nigerian man... so a little girl would make me pause!

Also it'd be weird if she wasn't born on a Sunday, which you can't know yet!

But then I also think it's weird if someone is called say "April" but not born in April!

purpleme12 · 02/07/2026 16:16

Oh wow never heard it being used as a boys name!

BeigeCardigan · 02/07/2026 16:15

I’ve known a few people named Sunday and they’ve all been male. I wouldn’t use it for that reason.

yonem · 02/07/2026 10:27

I think it’s dreadful sorry. People who don’t like her can say they’ve got the Sunday scaries 😂
I worked with someone called Monday who didn’t like his name and always seemed faintly embarrassed to introduce himself.

Monday really is an awful name

Amira83 · 02/07/2026 16:12

The fact that you really like the name, is enough to choose that name. When I chose my childrens names I loved them and I didnt care if other ppl didn't)
I like the name Sunday, its actually a really lovely name. I named my daughter Saffiya, nothing too unusual just not heard of much. I actually think unique names are beautiful.

TheIdlerReturns · 02/07/2026 16:10

I like it! But then I like Summer, Autumn and January as names too. Not so much April, May or June.

ShetlandishMum · 02/07/2026 16:08

Yes.

RubyEspadrilles · 02/07/2026 16:07

I don't hate Sunday, but Sunny is a lot to live up to when she is a scowling teen or a tantruming two year old. Not something I would like to be called myself. I knew a Serenity who was anything but.

purpleme12 · 02/07/2026 16:05

And obviously a lot of people will think it's odd naming her that

(But also some people will like it of course)

purpleme12 · 02/07/2026 16:04

I actually don't think it's a bad name

I just think people will be further mentioned Sunday because it's a day of the week and she'll be constantly turning her head as you think 'oh that's my name they want me'

OtterandaRock · 02/07/2026 16:03

Angelica, Celestina, Jacynth, Jonquil, Lucie, Serena have always felt Sunday-bright to me.

If I heard 'Sunday' I would think it was spelled 'Sundae' and that it was a name along the lines of Sweetie, Cherry, or Honey.

timoteigirl · 02/07/2026 16:01

I've come across weekday names more as middle names. A lot depends on your surname.

maddiemookins16mum · 02/07/2026 15:59

I think it's best to name your child for the adult they'll become and not the cute toddler they are for a year or so.

OtterandaRock · 02/07/2026 15:56

How about Dominique or Domenica, which also means Sunday?

For the sound, Sunita or Sanjana if you have South Asian heritage?

Sunniva, Solange, Aurora, Rae, Dawn?

IwanttoWFH · 02/07/2026 15:54

I really like it. It’s no different to calling her May or June etc

TheWildZebra · 02/07/2026 15:53

DramaAlpaca · 02/07/2026 10:16

Nicole Kidman has a daughter called Sunday Rose.

Sounds like a Farrow and Ball paint colour!

LivingTheDreamish · 02/07/2026 15:52

DramaAlpaca · 02/07/2026 10:16

Nicole Kidman has a daughter called Sunday Rose.

I always think that sounds like Sunday roast.

It’s okay OP if you feel like something non-traditional (just not with Rose!).

Thatsquark · 02/07/2026 14:27

I just find it odd @ichiha68 that you’re even considering a name that you think is “odd”

pambeesleyhalpert · 02/07/2026 12:08

ThatPearlPoet · 02/07/2026 10:15

I like it. I know a little girl called Tuesday (nickname too-ee), and no issues for having the day of a week for a name. It won’t be the most unusual name in the class!!

I had a friend called Tuesday! She was born On a Saturday! Il pipe the name Sunday

Ncforthis2267 · 02/07/2026 12:04

I prefer Wednesday
