How many Theodore’s do you know? Despite its popularity, I actually only know one. Is it popular in your area?

Three - all Greek Cypriots, so it’s Theodoros.
Our daughter’s FIL, our grandson, and his young cousin.

LadyLapsang · 28/06/2026 20:02

One aged 65.

@BestZebbie , More Theo and Theodores were registered in 2024 than Lily and Ivy (4th and 5th most popular girl's names).

I know about five, but most of them are aged 8-12, I think the 'top 10' moment has passed now.

It's definitely still a top 10 name. More Theo/Theodores (one or the other) were registered in 2024 than Noahs.

Yes, it’s starting to feel dated.

Giraffehaver · 27/06/2026 23:08

I know 3...15, 8 and 3. Theo Theodore and Teddy

Tonissister · 27/06/2026 22:55

One. He's a handsome cat.

I love the name.

Mumofgirls2017 · 27/06/2026 22:52

I know 6 Theo/ Theodore’s. Mum of 4 under 8.

tapdancingmum · 27/06/2026 21:56

1 in my nursery plus a Theodora and they both go by Teddy. Luckily they are in different rooms.

Calliopespa · 27/06/2026 21:54

About five or six, mostly teens now, though a couple of them same age as my prep-aged dc.

I'm not a huge fan. It's fine, not a weird name. Surprisingly, I quite like Theodora. Perhaps it is the shortening to Theo that I don't like.

RandomUsernameHere · 27/06/2026 21:43

It’s the most popular name by a long way among DS’s friends/year group (year 7). DS has 4 friends called Theo (shortened from Theodore). I don’t know if it’s as popular for younger children. I think it’s a lovely name.

Loads, probably 5 or 6? Lots of Theos and Teddys

Teddy as in Teddy Bear 🧸? !

Bellybellas · 27/06/2026 20:58

Loads of Theos here..!!!

Peanutlicious · 27/06/2026 19:41

I know 1

SheSmellsSeaShells · 27/06/2026 18:57

I love the name but I felt it was too popular and chose to use it as a middle name instead

snoopydoopydo · 27/06/2026 11:47

A few Theo's, but mainly teenagers. I really like it as a name but I'm in North London and not so keen when I hear the Th sound pronounced as a F!

Butterflybluebell · 27/06/2026 10:53

No Theodore's but tonnes of Theo's

patooties · 27/06/2026 09:43

5 - ranging from age 20 to toddlers

NamingNoNames · 27/06/2026 09:38

I only know 1 but I know quite a few Theos some of whom may be Theodore.
I don't like Theodore at all. Theo and Theodore are so overused but that's not why I don't like them. I don't like the sound or look of the names.

Mumsnet hates Theodore as it's 'too common'
But people on here also choose batshit names for their kids.
Who cares? If you like it that's fine.
When we lived up north there were two in his class and lots of others around. But also loads of louis' Elliott's Reubans and George's. Now we are down south and there's none. But lots of sebastions, Alfie's otis' and Monty's.

Phineyj · 27/06/2026 08:29

Lots, but I have taught in a bunch of diverse London schools and it's a name that works well across cultures, is easy to pronounce and spell and has a nice meaning. I also know a Dorothea!

DinoDances · 27/06/2026 08:21

None in any baby classes or my 2 year olds nursery - North east London
