Elliot/Elliott for a boy. Will it get shorted to Ellie ? And which spelling?

Now my husband is saying that going with our surname it could sound like an Estate Agent’s firm. ☹️. Just as some of you have been saying .. it’s a surname . I still like it though

He might be Ell or Ells. I know 3 and they don't, to my knowledge, get it shortened. There are 3 spellings. Elliott, Elliot and Eliot.

I don't like it (too surname-y), but I know a couple, now in their teens, and have never heard them being called anything other than Eliott or Ell.

My friends dc is called Elliot - he was affectionately called Ellie by his parents when he was toddler/preschooler age but full name only from then on. Think he did El briefly to his mates in teenagehood

It's OK but I don't generally like surnames used as a given name
Unless there is a good reason eg to preserve mother's family name down the line

I agree with PP, I think it’s a good name for the reasons they’ve said.
I think it’s unusual to have a 3 syllable name that doesn’t really have a shorter version for a nickname. Not that’s that a bad thing. Just worth considering if you wanted to have a name you could shorten.

Great name. Taught a few- never heard it shortened to Ellie. All really good lads too.

I know a grown up Elliott. I've never heard anyone shorten his name.

It's a really good name for a baby, child, teenager and grown up. It's well known but not common, no problems with pronunciation and the spelling is straightforward (just need to specify whether it's one or two t's).

It's an excellent choice in my view
