Do you like Lettice (leh-teese)? DH has raised the concern that people may try to pronounce it like lettuce (which honestly doesn’t bother me much because people mispronounce a lot of simple names). Letitia and Leticia are also options for that reason.

I think Lettice is far too similar to "lettuce" and it will be mispronounced all the time.

Letitia, Leticia - to me these sound nice in Latin-based languages (à la Laetitia Casta) but the English le-tish-a is not so nice and has a dated vibe like Patricia.

Calliopespa · 10/06/2026 18:31

I actually think Lucretia sounds nicer - though I get the associations are not all great.

Hello19834 · 10/06/2026 17:29

How about Larissa or Louisa? Laura?
Much nicer.

WaitingForMojo · 09/06/2026 23:29

There is a series of children’s books called Lettice the Rabbit. The lettuce association is strong.

Reminds me of school days when we would giggle at the Vicar whenever he said, "lettuce pray" 🤣

Or, lettuce spray :)

How about Collard or Okra?

Or Kale. Pronounced Kah-lay.

Not sure why would call your child lettuce, knowing they’d be called that. How is Letitia pronounced? I presume le-tit-ia? If so, that’s worse. I don’t like leticia but it’s the best of the 3

I'm pretty sure Letitia is pronounced Let-tee-sha or Let-tish-a. No tits involved! Like Letitia Dean, from East Enders.

@canklesmctacotits I just clocked your username too - EPIC 😄

You see where I got the idea from 😂

TeenLifeMum · 09/06/2026 23:14

Even the “right” pronunciation sounds like hyacinth bucket pronouncing lettuce. Just no, it’ll be the pregnancy hormones.

Boris daughter or Eastenders actor - hmm, I think I can't really like either name. One of Boris's other children is Romy which I do like

Oh that's short for Romaine.

I quite like a hyphen op: Lettuce-Pray.

Letizia if you don’t want a “sh” sound?

Sidestepping the ‘sh’ sound in favour of the landmine of being a girl and having a name with TITS in it

Roaroutthetree · 09/06/2026 23:04

Arugula sticks in my throat.

Endive is the way ahead op

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 09/06/2026 22:29

Calliopespa · 09/06/2026 21:57

😂

I actually know a Rocket, but you could try the spelling Roquette.

Arugula, Radicchio and Endive also sit well together.

Lollo Rosso anyone?

@NormasArse , is that Mar-meet or Mar-might?

Pinknotpurple · 09/06/2026 22:10

Imagine if her best friend was Tamara

Calliopespa · 09/06/2026 22:00

You could try insisting on Lett-eet-chay pronunciation

Calliopespa · 09/06/2026 21:59

NormasArse · 09/06/2026 05:34

Lettice is pretty, which is why it survived and they didn’t (if indeed they existed).

Some names are like Marmite; doesn’t make them ‘ludicrous’.

Oh I don't think Marmite is a good choice.

I know a Romaine. If you’re going down the leafy salad route.

I thought it WAS Lettuce.

SwatTheTwit · 09/06/2026 16:47

Leticia and Laetitia are nice, variations imo just no.

Lettice just sounds wrong, too close to lettuce and to lattice.
