What does the name Julian make you think of, what overall vibe does it present, etc.?

OP posts:

Wetter than an otters pocket

Working class or foreign scoundrels. And there was occasionally a local country policeman who didn’t take them seriously, so Julian had to go over his head to the Detective Inspector in the big town.

And yes to the patronising of some rosy-cheeked farm wife who was apparently so under-employed that she asked nothing better than to rustle up giant picnics at will for four passing children and a dog.

He was awful! 😂😂😂

Fanny and Quentin should have recognised this early on and as soon as he was capable of tending to his own needs they should rowed across to Kirrin Island and left him there without any means of escape.

Useless in a fight

I also think of Julian Kirrin being bossy and officious and telling Anne to tend to lunch whilst he and the others go off and apprehend some working class scoundrels and patronise some poor farmer's wife.

But if I met a real life Julian and he was cool I could re-adjust my perception. It's not a terrible name.

Julian Assange and Julian Fellowes, creator of Downton Abbey 😂 very different!

mamakoukla · 07/06/2026 15:40

Julian Sands, Julian Bream

i like it as a name.

Ohgoose · 07/06/2026 15:38

Blonde, floppy hair, probably likes coke. Bit of a knob but harmless enough.

SurleyTurnip · 07/06/2026 15:32

Julian Bashir of off DS9.

MyCloak · 07/06/2026 14:08

Julius is a lot nicer. Both the Juliuses I know are kind and terrific-looking.

GhostOrchid · 07/06/2026 13:30

I think blond, floppy hair and sensitive because of Julian Sands in A Room With A View.

Julian Clary and Julian and Sandy give it gay vibes.

It’s a nice name on its own terms though.

Mousespoons · 07/06/2026 13:22

I think julius actually meant golden haired… so maybe that’s where the blonde thing comes from

i I know a lovely older Julian, arty and plays bluegrass

littlemousebigcheese · 07/06/2026 13:17

Wet lettuce kind of man, weedy

cheapskatemum · 07/06/2026 13:09

John Lennon’s son. Also a good friend from primary school. He was intelligent & not particularly sporty.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 07/06/2026 13:06

Also blond, wet, bit snivelly

Timeforatincture · 07/06/2026 13:03

I'm Julian and this is my friend Sandy

NamingNoNames · 07/06/2026 12:59

Julian Clary. I dislike the name.

Purplecatshopaholic · 07/06/2026 10:15

Lovely name

Desert76 · 07/06/2026 10:09

I had a school friend called Julian. He was lovely, kind, cheeky, left to go to boarding school as a cathedral choirboy.

DB also had a school friend called Julian. He was a little bit full of himself, but nice enough.

Both my Dc also have had classmates called Julian.

One was half German, his mum called him “Yuli”, which I thought was very sweet.

None of them have been “posh” although I suppose they were all middle class.
None blond either.

I like the name.

plaidpillow · 07/06/2026 09:55

I love the name Julian, but I’ve never had a little boy to be able to use it. I liked it ever since I read it in my Postman Pat books as a child - his son was called Julian.

SpottyPyjama · 07/06/2026 09:50

Male ballet dancer

Letmebe01 · 07/06/2026 09:43

It’s a bit wussy.

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 07/06/2026 09:43

Classy / non chav name

Julian is probably a very good egg and not an "alpha" or manosphere type.

Probably quite cool

I like it

Nitgel · 07/06/2026 09:41

Arch drude Jilian Cope.

I love the name its a off beat name.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 07/06/2026 09:41

My neighbour. Helpful and pleasant. Julian Clary but it’s easy to pick one person off the tv and assume a baby will be associated with them. Or from a book written by someone from a very different era and didn’t like children.
