....what would their name be?

Try and be decisive, no more than 2 suggestions per sex!

For me:
Boy: Gilbert or Laurie
Girl: Ginny

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Me - girl - Ramona (Quimby) - boy - Danny (Champion of the World). Although these are not my children’s names!

My dad, using a similar method to name me, went with the little girl in Wonderland.

Yep snap for me too: Lucy and then Alice

Boys: Diggory (in Magician's Nephew then professor in LW and W)

MissDixieVoom · 01/06/2026 19:09

Anne. I can’t think of a boy’s name from my favourite books that I’d want to use.

NotAnotherRebecca · 01/06/2026 18:20

Kizzy (Keziah) from the Diddakoi.
Jude, from Jude the Obscure.

These were the names we had lined up for DC2 but a few weeks before their arrival, we changed our minds and went with a different one. I'd still use these names though.

My son and daughter are both named after book characters - one from a series of children's books and the other from a gothic fantasy. They both seem happy with their unusual names.

EverydayRoutine · 01/06/2026 18:10

Great idea for a thread! It's hard to choose just two each.

Girls:
Nicola from Antonia Forest's wonderful books about the Marlow family.
Josephine (Jo) from Little Women.

Boys:
William (Will) from K.M. Peyton's Flambards series (and a twofer, since Will is also the name of a character from a book called White Ghost Summer, which I loved as a child).
Guy from Olivia Manning's Fortunes of War and its sequels.

I always loved the character Dickon from The Secret Garden, but I expect that it would be rather unfair to give a child that name these days.

Big Ears. Just finished reading Noddy cheers up Big ears

squashyhat · 01/06/2026 17:54

Nancy (Blackett) or Tom (Dudgeon). Or Timothy for my namesake (or better still the real person he was based on - Oscar Gnosspelius Grin)

mayflowers9 · 01/06/2026 17:51

I also adored Anne of Green Gables – so maybe Katherine with a K!

Yellowpapersun · 01/06/2026 17:44

Jean Louise (Scout's real name)
Catherine (Earnshaw)
Jude (The Obscure!)
William (Russell, Flambards)

Whosthetabbynow · 01/06/2026 17:41

Miffy

Hatty65 · 01/06/2026 17:35

Loveday Minette from The Little White Horse.

I'd love to have been called that.
