Bloom as a middle name?

trendy or pretty?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Firebird83 · 30/05/2026 14:44

It’s fine as a middle name. Prefer Blossom though.

Chersfrozenface · 30/05/2026 14:39

I'd immediately think it was a surname. So first name plus two surnames. Frequent enough in children of non married parents of my acquaintance.

Makes me think of Violet Bridgerton…”my garden is in bloom!”

It makes me think of the bit in Cranford when a gentleman comments that a young lady has "lost her bloom" (i.e. lost her youthful glow) so was no longer marriageable. The young lady was in her twenties . . .

Favouritefruits · 30/05/2026 14:33

It’s not pretty or tendy its silly

bellventrico · 30/05/2026 14:32

I like it

Moveoverdarlin · 30/05/2026 14:29

Trendy? No
Pretty? No
Bit try hard? Yep!

In my experience, girls often like to ask each other about their middle names. I used to say I didn't have one because I thought mine was so awful!

I can imagine your DD will feel the same if you call her Bloom, @CheeryMintHiker

Johnogroats · 30/05/2026 14:25

I was at school with someone over 40 years ago who had Bloom as a surname. I remember thinking it was an odd one then. Wouldn’t be my choice OP.

AgnesMcDoo · 30/05/2026 14:22

It’s an odd choice but middle names do t matter so if you like it go with it

Soontobe60 · 30/05/2026 14:14

I wouldn’t use it personally. If it’s a middle name she’ll always have the option of not using it once she’s old enough though.

CieloElmers · 30/05/2026 14:11

It’s a middle name go for it! Wish I had given my kids more out there fun middle names

ETA, You won’t get a lot off support for Bloom on MN, if you would like their approval I suggest, Margaret, Clementine or Phyllis

User711985 · 30/05/2026 13:25

I don’t think it’s even a little bit pretty.

It’s pretty awful.

SkippitySkoppity · 30/05/2026 13:29

I think you can go as crazy as you like with middle names.

ThreeStripeQueen · 30/05/2026 13:26

I don’t really like it, I’m struggling to put a name in front of it that doesn’t make it sound like a clown or cartoon character.

User711985 · 30/05/2026 13:25

I don’t think it’s even a little bit pretty.

titchy · 30/05/2026 13:16

It’s a euphemism for putting on weight. So no.

Is it? I thought it was used to describe a woman becoming more obviously pregnant.

I don't mind Bloom as middle name, but prefer Blossom

Blossom sounds like a carthorse!
Bloom is awful too.
Sorry OP.
Flora, Fleur or one of the flower names?

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 30/05/2026 13:04

Makes me think of bloomers
I would suggest -
blossom, bluebell, Luna, Louise, Blanca, Blanche, blue ivy
as alternatives

IsadoraQuagmire · 30/05/2026 11:54

Brainstorm23 · 30/05/2026 10:50

It's not a name! I'd also think you were a fan of Ulysses by James Joyce.

That's exactly what I'd think.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 30/05/2026 11:35

It’s hideous. I don’t mind Blossom or there are lots of girls flower names that would be better…

WeAreNotOutnumbered · 30/05/2026 11:30

It might be the country where i am from but 'to bloom' means to lose your virginity.

NamingNoNames · 30/05/2026 11:28

Pretty awful.

user293948849167 · 30/05/2026 11:09

Trendy and pretty I would say. I usually like more traditional names but I do quite like Bloom
