Afternoon, DH and I are expecting twins, we haven’t found out the sex’s and don’t plan to, but I am due very soon and wondering what of options for combinations of names you like best.

So for girl/girl
We are stuck between
Leonora and Margarita (my favourite but DH worries it’s a bit “heavy”)
or
Leonora and Carlotta
or
Charlotte and Madeleine

Boy/Girl
Gabriel and Leonora
Gabriel and Charlotte
Sebastian and Margarita

Boy/Boy
Gabriel and Sebastian
Augustus and Sebastian
Gabriel and Theodore

Which combo is your favourite? Any you really dislike? Any combinations you think we might like?

OP posts:

MiddleAgedDread · 28/05/2026 17:58

charlotte and madeleine aka Lottie & Maddie
sebastian and charlotte
sebastian and Theodore aka Seb & Theo

ravenclaworslytherin · 28/05/2026 17:55

For girl/girl my favourite is:
Leonora and margarita

Girl/boy:
Sebastian and margarita

Bot/boy:
Gabriel and Sebastian

DinoDances · 28/05/2026 17:48

Unfortunately I agree with others re Margarita. It might be a name elsewhere, but unless you're actually Spanish and plan to spend a lot of time there it's not a name I'd want in the UK, and I don't particularly like it as a sound. I think combined with Leonora it's also a very long pair to say.

My favourite combinations are:
Charlotte and Madeleine
Gabriel and Sebastian
Gabriel and Madeleine (I know you didn't have this as an option but these are my 2 favourite).

NamingNoNames · 28/05/2026 17:02

I'd go for shorter names. Long names are likely to get shortened.
Girls' names:
Charlotte and Madeleine is the best combination
Leonora and Margarita - 9 syllables is a lot
Leonora and Carlotta - I'm not keen on either of them.

I don't like any of the boys' names. I dislike Theodore.

Imagine yourself calling 'Leonora and Sebastian' across the park for the umpteenth time that day.
Try them with the surname and try out any diminutives.

jannier · 28/05/2026 17:02

My cousins a Leanora hates it ..
Nick names at school...Raw, Lion, Nora on a bone...calls herself Lee

TinyMouseTheatre · 28/05/2026 16:58

Leonora & Carlotta

Gabriel & Charlotte

and can I pair Augustus with Theodore? Two of my favourite boy’s names.

Actually if it does turn out to be girl/boy then how about Carlotta & Augustus?

I Have a colleague called Leonora who’s Italian and absolutely lovely so I might be biased but I think Leonora and Carlotta are lovely together. I love Sebastian and Augustus too.

Why? Margarita is a beautiful Spanish name?

I’m sorry it just makes me hungry and I think of pizza. If you are in Spain great if you are anywhere else I wouldn’t use this name as your kid might be bullied

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 28/05/2026 15:48

Charlotte Madeleine
gabriel leonora
gabriel Sebastian

FiloPasty · 28/05/2026 15:48

There is also a very unfortunate tik tok song that has Margerita in it that has quite rude connotations in it and I can imagine having someone sing that at you would be horrendous. Kids will and do pick on anything.

Agree also on other people shortening whatever names you give them so definitely keen that in mind.

Charlotte & Madeleine and Gabriel & Sebastian for me.

Are you or your partner Spanish?

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 28/05/2026 15:47

Miyagi99 · 28/05/2026 14:23

Margarita is just a drink to me! Augustus is Augustus Gloop. The rest are fine.

The Margarita I know, her parents are Spanish and she’s know as Maggie or Mags.

I appreciate that it's spelt differently but it's pronounced the same.

I'm sure the parents of Summer, Mercedes, Olive and Rosemary had similar discussions then.

There's no point in asking for an opinion and then being arsey when you get one. It's a name that will make people think of pizza. That doesn't necessarily mean you shouldn't use it, but be aware that for lots of people in the UK it's a drink and a pizza way before it's a child's name.

I agree - Marguerite is a nice name. Margarita I wouldn’t think twice about it if I met someone from another country called this but if UK based I’d be surprised as the pizza especially is so universal. To answer OP you may be surprised that Margarita and Mercedes are both extremely rare names in the UK, 9 and 13 born in 2024 respectively. Food & car associations must have something to do with it.

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 28/05/2026 15:31

My favourites are
Charlotte and Madeleine
Gabriel and Charlotte
Gabriel and Theodore

BrickProblems · 28/05/2026 15:28

Agree with a PP who said the twins’ names will be said together A LOT (I can hardly even think of twins I know without thinking “Jo and Katy” “Alex and Rhys” etc) so try to make sure they’re easy to say in combo. That’ll be for friends, relations, teachers, etc.

Having said that my personal favourites are Leonora and Madeleine. Charlotte and Madeleine also nice.

Gabriel and Leonora is lovely. Gabriel and Sebastian works even though I don’t much like Seb.

The pizza is Margherita which is also a well known name in Italy.
Olive, Rosemary, Summer, Mercedes are all also names that are words or names of a food/brand.

Sunisgettinganewhaton · 28/05/2026 15:22

Lenor is a laundry product so don't use Leonora..
From your list
Gabriel
Sebastian
Though Gabe and Seb might be a bit much
Charlotte and Madeliene (Charlie /Lottie /Maddy)
