How would you pronounce the baby name Renie?

I would say it Reeny, as in short for Irene, which I think is lovely- but I'd have to think about it, and I'd expect it to be mistaken for Renee a lot! That isn't that big a deal though necessarily. My child has a name that's straightforward but often said wrong just because it's a bit unusual. I don't regret giving it to her and she doesn't mind.

There's nothing in the spelling to suggest Renn-AY or Run-AY.

Rennie. As in the tablet. The only Ree- nees I’ve known had it as a nickname and were Irene

Who would get "Ruh-nah" from "Renie"?

My first thought was "Rennie" like the tablets, but "Ree-nee" might be more correct.
However, a lot of people are seeing it as "Rennie", at least at first.

I agree with everyone else who says: how do you intend it to be pronounced? It's impossible to tell from just the spelling you've given.

There's a reason why, for example, 'Renée' is spelt that way - the accent and the double e indicates it's 'ruh-NAY'. If you want it to sound like that, spell it like that.

If it’s REN-nie you’re after, I'd spell it 'Renny' - probably not with an ie and one n (are you trying to avoid it looking like indigestion tablets?)

If it's REE-nee, like a nickname for Irene, I'd think that was a very old-fashioned name for a small child now. I knew several elderly 'Reenies' when I was a child in the 70s. I never saw it written down because it was a nickname.

How would you like it pronounced, op?
If you like ruh-nay, then spell it Renée, as in Zellweger.
If you want ree-nee, then spell it Rene. She’ll probably get some mispronunciations along the way, but hopefully not ‘Rennie’!

@loislovesstewie on my phone you just hold the letter you want, and it comes up with all the accents etc. Don’t know if yours is the same? 🙂

Minor problem with Renée in the UK is that you can’t register the accent or include in passport.

How do you want it pronounced? And any reason for that spelling rather than Reenie/Renee/Rennie?

For what it’s worth, I like Reenie the most, but would probably go with Irene or Irina and use Reenie as a nickname.

Yes, I have an aunt who spells her name Rene, but pronounces it Reenee, as it's a nickname for Irene.

I think Renie is cute, but you should put Irene on the birth certificate. Then she can say “Renie, short for Irene”. Then people won’t forget or be confused.
