Could anyone offer any thoughts on any of these names please? Rosanna, Amy, Bethany, Cara, Christina, Abigail, Faith, Hope, Joanna, Holly, Rhiannon, Tessa, Leona, Alice, Leah, Mariah. Really struggling to narrow it down! Thanks!

Would Holly seem odd at all for a summer birthday or would it not matter? Wouldn't matter but it is slightly Christmassy.

Try the names with the surname. Holly Bush or Tess Tickell might not be a good idea.
Think about short versions with the shorter names too. Amy's ok but Ames isn't.

Brownbear8 · 11/05/2026 19:25

They’re a little 90’s for my own taste, but there’s nothing wrong with that!

I think Tessa, and Holly are the nicest. Alice is OK too but I think Alicia sounds nicer personally.

CandyflossKid · 11/05/2026 19:21

Amy and Holly are my favourites

Lins77 · 11/05/2026 19:18

Cara, Christina, Joanna and Tessa are my favourites from your list.

Sapphireandsteel2 · 11/05/2026 19:16

I don't like the virtue names Faith and Hope. I also find Hope quite difficult to say, comes to an abrupt stop with the 'p', partly depends on first letter of surname.

MovedlikeHarlowinMonteCarlo · 11/05/2026 19:14

I love Leona and Christina.

The rest are OK except for Alice and Tessa which are drippy names. Imo of course.

Wouldn't matter a bit.

Thanks! 😊

I love
Holly
Abigail
Alice
I like
Bethany
Cara ( because of its meaning- friend )

Gottagetfitin26 · 11/05/2026 19:07

All nice except Alice, which is an awful, wet overused name imo. Leona and Mariah Remind me of the singers though. Favourites are Rhiannon, Rosanna and Abigail as all are beautiful but underused, in England anyway.

@Rosetyler1 , it sounds quite different, doesn't it. I blame Fleetwood Mac but they also said Sara as Sarah.

There aren't any bad names on your list. I think with the longer names like Rosanna, Joanna and Christina you need to consider any short forms like Ros, Rosie, Jo, Chris, Tina.

Edited

Yes it was the song that made me think of the name in the first place. Thanks, I quite like all those short versions actually so I don't think that would be a problem. 🙂

I like Rosanna and Abigail

Rh is one letter not two and sounds like R+H said at the same time, the IAN are almost 'yann', and the NON rhymes with 'on'. Stress is on the AN.

In the list, the 3rd one and the 5th one.

Ooh I hadn't realised that, thanks.

Thanks! 😊 Little women was actually my favourite book as a kid so it may have subconsciously influenced my choices a bit! 😅

Christina not many around. So good choice
What about Christy. I love it

dailyconniptions · 11/05/2026 18:40

Faith, Cara and Holly are gorgeous. Alice is awful and wet. The rest are just OK.

Tellmetomorrow57 · 11/05/2026 18:39

@NamingNoNames, genuine question- how would you pronounce Rhiannon correctly?

NamingNoNames · 11/05/2026 18:33

Fairly current:
Cara - like
Leona - too many Leos
Leah - too many Leos
Alice - would be happy to use

Classic:
Abigail - like but it will get shortened
Joanna - like but it will get shortened
Alice - also current
Leah - see above
Tessa - I really like Tess
Christina - like but it will get shortened
Maria - said as Mariah, like

A bit dated:
Rosanna - like but it will get shortened
Amy - not keen
Bethany - dislike
Holly - quite like
Rhiannon - OK said properly. Ree-annun is not ok at all.

Virtue names:
Faith - quite like but think faithless
Hope- quite like but think hopeless

Shortlist:
Alice, Abigail, Tess, Cara, Christina, Holly

scaredsillyabout · 11/05/2026 18:32

Tessa is the nicest

Rosetyler1 · 11/05/2026 18:11

7238SM · 11/05/2026 18:08

Rosanna, Rhiannon and Mariah- not keen
Tessa- sound like a nn for something longer and not keen as the entire name
Amy, Alice, Abigail, Christina, Faith, Hope, Joanna- fine names but a bit boring and plain for some reason
Bethany, Cara, Holly, Leona, Leah- I like these the most. A good friend is Kara so I'm not familiar with the Cara spelling. Also, how are you pronouncing Leah? Its my cousins middle name but she lives abroad and pronounces it Lee-Ah. I 'think' I've seen it pronounced differently on MN before.

Thanks! I'd pronounce it Lee-ah, is another pronunciation common I don't think I've heard any others? 😊

From your list the names I like the most are: Bethany, Abigail and Alice.

I don't mind Holly and Cara.

I am not that keen on the rest.
